Authenticity is Everything
Ebay seller with multiple JSA authenticated baseballs. Prices too good?
I'm a new member here but have lurked a bit over the past few months. I've been looking to expand my autograph baseball collection after an individual from another forum sent me two autographed baseballs that were his late father-in-laws. Sandy Koufax and Willie Stargell! He himself is not a collector and these were catching dust after his father-in-law passed away over a year ago. He said he didn't need to money and would rather the balls go to someone who would cherish them. He offered them to me (free including shipping) based on a post I made in a thread, as he thought I would enjoy them. Truly a remarkable event for me and I'll never forget it.
I've been looking on ebay and based on reading here, know that JSA certificates are now being faked! A real shame.
I came across a seller last night with multiple JSA authenticated balls but the prices seem almost too good to be true? He also doesn't have the certificates posted in the pictures with the balls. He does have 100% positive feedback but I know that many collectors aren't as well educated as those on here so that could be misleading.

I don't see anything wrong with ones I am familiar with. Looks like they're priced to sell and they may make a few extra bucks off of shipping.

I messaged him asking if he could send me pictures of the JSA certifications and he said he would try. He informed me that he goes to spring training for 4 weeks to obtain these autographs.
Prices are what surprised me because I know it costs a decent amount of money just to authenticate them, which didn't seem like it left a good amount of profit for him

I was looking over what he was selling. Everything I know what he has is in the wheelhouse of being Authentic. What I gather from the conversation you have has is that he does go to Cactus league and all these teams are extremely accessible to fans during games and work outs I myself live in Arizona and these guys can tell you from feb to march I rack up on getting a lot of signatures.I just may purchase a few myself off that seller.
Actually you live in the same part of town as I do you can easily get these sigs your self come spring training

They are all good nothing alarming with what he is selling. He doesn't have many of the bigger name guys that bring the big money but still some decent guys to add to a collection.
It is strange though that he is selling them for cheap, it's possible he doesn't know the real value of some of these or he's just looking to dump them.
If you do the math it would seem like he's losing money.
Official Major League Baseball $12-$15
JSA Cert $20 (cheaper if you deal in bulk)
Ebay and Paypal fees (10%)
Time getting the signatures.
It would seem like he's losing money on some of these, strange but they are good signatures.

This was my exact initial thinking just knowing the price of MLB balls and authenticating. Almost seems like he wouldn't even be breaking even on a few of them, hence my hesitation.
Maybe they aren't MLB balls?
