My vote goes to Nirvana, NWA, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, The Replacements and Linda Ronstadt. :)
Hall and Oates, Yes, I like Cat Stevens but Deep Purple and Nirvana are more rock. It should be just music HOF or something. Are the Moody Blues in yet?
I liked the museum in Cleveland, but, yeah, the focus is a mess. They let too many non-rock and mediocre acts in.
Yeah, Nirvana's a lock. I think Deep Purple and Peter Gabriel will get in. Good chance for NWA too.
Here is quote from my friend on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame:
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is different than say... baseball...where prolonged productivity means almost nothing in rock. Bands like Journey, Reo Speedwagon, Cheap Trick, Hall and Oates... they don't really have much of a chance. even though they all still tour and makes gobs of money... they didn't define their generation, didn't put out anything that redefined music or enhanced anything. mostly, all they did was copy other, more established acts. They made good music, but don't necessarily fit the criteria to get in the rock hall.
But it seems like, especially in recent years, there are several acts that fit that decription that have made the cut.
Hall and Oates where one of the groups that helped define the eighties. I could come up with other arguments, Yes were unique, I don't even think Chicago is in there. But Abba is in there? Even though Im not a fan I don't think Kiss is in there. And holy cow I think Simon is in there but not Garfunkel !!!
Not so sure about Journey...
Their music is essentially the soundtrack to the early to mid 80s, and it sounds just as good today as it did 30+ years ago.
where the hell is jeff lynne and electic light orchestra? the hall is a joke.
