Hi,  I recently sent in a signed copy of the 1st Harry Potter book  to PSA to get a LOA.  The autograph was signed in person, and as far as I can tell, looks exactly like other authentic JK Rowling signatures I've seen.  I have no idea why they didn't authenticate it, but they were happy to take my money.

I know 100% it's authentic since I had it signed in person (i also have a ticket from the event), and now I'm out $100ish and have no LOA, which I only want in case I decide to sell it later on.  Is there anything I can do?  Any way to get a refund?  I called customer service - they were no help and said I couldn't talk to the person who review it.

thanks

where is the $350 book?  I'd like to buy it

What happens if PSA or JSA say yes and you put this away for 5 years and then come to sell it and PSA or JSA are the Global Authentics of tomorrow and have let their reputation go to the wall? I'm not saying it will happen but if it did you'd then have to pay again for further authentication.

I realise there are many sticker buyers out there who pay more for an item with a pretty PSA or JSA sticker regardless of whether the signature is genuine or not.

Why not post the item here, get opinions and save and print for future reference when you do come to sell.

On another note I am please I know what to feed a raccoon and as we don't get raccoons in New Zealand I will try to see if possums also like Friskies!

this website is a great resource, but I think having an ebay auction with "PSA COA" in the description would be a better sell to most buyers than "confirmed authentic on a website you probably have never heard of" :)

I've been buying on ebay for years and only recently stumbled upon this great site

Good or bad, the reality is many eBay buyers search on PSA or JSA and will only consider certed items. Like it or not, a cert from one of these TPAs opens your item to a much wider potential buying population.

Now whether that remains to be the case in 10 or 20 years is a matter of pure speculation.

For liquidity purposes, and if something should ever happen to me suddenly and my wife is left with unloading my collection, I have LOAs for my more valuable items... In any case, my preference is to get the letter and NOT place the sticker on the item.

As a matter of full disclosure, I provide consulting services to JSA, SGC and PSA.

Welcome to the site Michelle!!

Glad to have you here

Mark

Thanks Mark!

i have the same problem, not from jsa authentication but from potential buyers, i recentlty added a post here on my Sinatra signature, i know its real but it dosent look like the conventional Sinatra, so jsa etc i am sure, will not pass it!!! now i cant sell it!! at least for a decent market value!! thanks Frank!

get a quick opinion from PSA. If they come back good send it in get the full loa

Michelle - You might have better luck getting something like that authenticated in person. If you are not in a hurry to sell it, I would suggest looking on the JSA website (www.spenceloa.com) and see if one of their authenticators is going to be at an event near you. You might have the opportunity to talk with the authenticator and show he/she the signing event ticket you have. They charge $75 for a Rowling opinion. Unfortunately, I agree with you, if you are going to sell it, the little sticker from JSA or PSA adds to the price you will receive.
