Steve asked me to start a new thread since some were having a lot of issues with regards to whether or not the through the mail autographs of Jerry Lee Lewis are real or not.  I will post some examples of what we have been getting recently and some know in person examples.   These TTM signatures are not cheap.  You have to pay $50 for them to his box office box.  The question is are they real or not.  Roger has said that he has never seen Mr. Lewis sign this way and it looks to perfect - like a woman's signature.

Please post your thoughts here and examples.

thanks

Mark

Sorry for taking so long to get back on this but I have been playing catch up since I got back.  I even cancelled a trip to Fl to take my Dad to the Players tournament just to get caught up.

I am still going through my old files trying to find some items that a friend of mine and of Jerry Lee that got many things signed by him in the past.  I found a couple but want to get a wider a range of ones that he actually signed for friend, in person.  My friend Nick; told me long ago that Jerry hated the nick name "Killer" and would rarely put it on items.  He had one and I'm looking for it very hard.  I've also been trying to contact Nick but he has moved from NY to Vegas and I am having trouble tracking him down.  It's been years since we have talked and would love to chat with about this and other things. I will try to put it together by the weekend's end but I am working on this.  It has turned out very interesting to say the least.

thanks Roger!!  Big time!

Is that Nick Martone?  I used to hang out with him and get graphs together.  He is a very good friend of JLL and was able to get me backstage in NYC once.  I havent seen Nick since my trip to Vegas years ago.  Good guy and he would surely know.

Yes,

I haven't been able to contact him but if you know how let me know.  Nick is a fun guy with lots of JLL stories.  I'm still checking it out.  I have a file somewhere of some of the stuff he had from Jerry including a bunch of "Great Balls of Fire" premier tickets signed.  It would be fun into "Elvis's" brother Nick again.

On another note;

If anyone ever gets a chance to go to Tokyo or Yokohama, do it!  The place is amazing, the people are the friendliest I have ever seen and they have a great selection of premium vinyl to choose from.  Also it's "Hello Kitty's" 45th birthday this year and you wouldn't want to miss that celebration!

I just have an address for him.  We still exchange Christams cards.  No email or Phone #

can you send it to me privately?  I would like to contact him.  I used to get his holiday cards for years but about 3 years ago he stopped sending them.

You must have gotten that ticket from him as it looks just like the ones I had.

Yep did.  It seems he moves a lot.  Let me track down the last address!

BTW, here are some I obtained with the help of Nick back in the day, and a sheet music piece I got in 1989 after a show in NYC.  I hope this helps. (ticket also signed by Dennis Quaid)

I want to make a comment regarding the "Killer" issue. I watched a few documentaries and interviews on youtube about JLL. He speaks about the nickname several times on them and seems fond or proud of the name. He states he couldn't always remember people's names so he would say "hey killer" to them in place of their name. After a while he had done this with a number of people and they started calling him that back. He seemed to enjoy it. The interviews (most anyway) were probably 20 years old or more so things could have changed.

I'm going to wait until Roger can get to his JLLs before I contact him about signing examples on video for us. I don't want to ask them to go out of their way anymore than needed for a situation that's already no doubt upsetting to them.

Makes sense, Steve.  Also I think they are on the road right now according to Jerry Lee's facebook.

Hi Chad,

Sorry for the delay. i will be the first to acknowledge, you know more about JLL sigs than i do. I dont know them at all. But i see some extreme red flags in my opinion, which maybe i jumped the gun in calling "evidence". I am trying to look at this from the perspective of if this was just a random dude trying to sell you stuff. Based on that, here are the big red flags i see.

1.) is that there legitimately seem to be at least 2 different signing styles/letter formation at work. I could be wrong on that, but it appears that way

2.) There have been some convincing arguments that Jerry's wife's handwriting shares some common characteristics with some of the recent TTM signatures.

3.) Rogers opinion that they are not authentic

4.) The sudden price change, and a pretty dramatic one, that seems to have occurred after this thread went up. Price increases are normal, so who knows. All i can do is just think out loud i guess. My thought process was that if you had an individual (any celeb in general) who was getting later in years and possibly declining in health and who was having someone sign on behalf of them b/c of his age/health, etc, and then was suddenly questioned on that (where money is involved), and then they realized they will truly have to sign from that point on, that they might decide they would require more money. Now, thats not to say thats what went on here, its just how i think when analyzing things. An interesting thing, is that if i remember correctly from my days at star tiger, JLL signs TTM on things like note cards, etc, for free. I think i seem to remember alot of success from people writing to him for free, but could be wrong. And if i am remembering correctly, no one said much about a secretarial signature on the free TTM's. But again i could be wrong. it would be interesting to see if we can get a startiger member, to see what there records say about JLL. They have a gallery where people post pics of there success, and it would be nice to see those sigs that were acquired TTM (presumably free) and compare those to the ones people have been receiving for 50 bucks or under. If they are the same, that may be a clue.

5.) Another slight point that i always think about, although it may not be taking place here. Is the many stars in the past who have sworn up and down they signed there mail, but in reality never did. And the cases that have sometimes popped up of a celeb charging for sigs, that werent authentic. It has happened, and so i always keep that in mind.

But its the signatures themselves, as we all know that hold the keys, and there do seem to be at least 2 different signature variations in the examples provided. And in my opinion, its doubtful that both would be from the same person. But who knows, i certainly am no expert. I also agree, that the best way for the JLL estate to settle all of this, is to provide an up close HD video of him signing  5 or 6 items. Video where we can easily see the autograph being signed up close. If that video shows a match to the signatures people have been getting, and the signature is fluid, fast, and natural, then JLL will be able to silence us all, as that would prove it. Unfortunately pics will just not work to settle things. But JLL certainly doesnt owe us anything ( at least me or anyone who has not paid for a signature). So a video may be asking to much.

I find this thread a great one, and a very fascinating one. And i am trying to view things from a point of considering JLL as just a random seller and not a celeb. I certainly hope all the sigs are real and i have a feeling there will be resolution to the questions before to much longer.
