STUDY: Jerry Lee Lewis - TTM real or not real
Steve asked me to start a new thread since some were having a lot of issues with regards to whether or not the through the mail autographs of Jerry Lee Lewis are real or not. I will post some examples of what we have been getting recently and some know in person examples. These TTM signatures are not cheap. You have to pay $50 for them to his box office box. The question is are they real or not. Roger has said that he has never seen Mr. Lewis sign this way and it looks to perfect - like a woman's signature.

You totally should. At $100 per autograph, someone on Team JLL should run down to Staples and buy a few Sharpies.

I certainly would Dave. You have nothing to lose. Any opinions on the autographed photos I got back yesterday? They would seem to be consistent with the authentic ones.

They look somewhat like the ones I got at the concert in 2010 (#19 in Steve's composite). I think mine looks consistent with the authentic ones and yours does as well.

Dave I personally wouldn't JLL is already upset by this thread and the replies coming back with letters stating he's not happy nit picking an authentic graph could make him quit signing all together. this thread may have already been the reason the fee went from 50- 100 each and id hate to see him stop all together. I can see him saying " first they think there fake now there not good enough for them" You got an authentic autograph and I think I would leave it alone Imo

I understand what you're saying, Steven, and that's why I asked you guys. The thing is it's really not good enough, not for $50 and not for basically ruining an original Sun jacket. I could be wrong, but I doubt that JLL even knows much about this thread. It's probably all Judith.

I wouldnt hesitate to send it back. You paid good money for that graph, you should get your moneys worth. Plus, in my opinion, the pen inscription thing needs to be corrected. There is no explanation i can think of that would explain why numerous people are getting back items, where the dedication is in pen and then traced over in sharpie, other than the fact that someone on team JLL is writing in the name of the person it is to be signed too and then Jerry goes over it once he starts signing. I imagine team JLL does this b/c they dont want to trouble JLL with reading each letter, therefore, it makes sense that someone is reading the requests, writing in the dedication on the item, and then when JLL sits down to sign, he doesnt have to flip through letters to see whats what, and he just writes over the ballpoint with a sharpie. I cant think of why else it is happening on numerous items. It would be much easier to simply write a post it note and attach it to each item though. Maybe these pen personalizations are just from one batch that JLL started with pen and then stopped and switched to a sharpie. But if thats so, then why is the dedication written in pen, and not the full signature in each example. If it were a matter of switching writing medium, then there wouldnt be a pattern to the signing style of having just the dedication in ballpoint, and then traced over. Personally i find that a detractor.
And i dont think that we are nitpicking an authentic autograph. I dont think the authenticity has been proven either way. Both JLL and his wife have a very similar writing style, and there are alot of people who are disputing the graphs. This isnt a case of an obviously authentic graph getting picked apart, at least not in my opinion. It is something that needs more study and more examples to tell for sure.
We all know as collectors, that a celebrity charging for his graph, who gets caught in a lie that could hurt there image, isnt going to admit to it. Thats not saying JLL is lying, thats just common sense. So we cant expect an admission from any celeb now or in the future regarding such a situation. I dont think we should be afraid of upsetting a celebrity. Especially if you are paying 100 bucks for an autograph. For that price, you should get exactly what you want, and no question should be discouraged. Thats alot of money, and if there is confusion, then questions should be asked.
Good points have been expressed by each side, but i dont see any closure coming to this any time soon. But these definetly dotn fall into the category of obviously authentic vs not, at least not in my opinion.

Jll and Judith both know about this thread and it is upsetting to them. Jll loves his fans and over the last 57 years has tried to be accommodating. I think it hurts him to have his integrity questioned.
This is my opinion after communicating with them. It is also the feeling I have about jll after watching a lot of interviews, documentaries and live events recorded over the years for what that is worth.

Perhaps JLL vaguely knows about it, or only what Judith has told him. But I'm guessing a lot of the B.S. that's happened with his autograph signings have happened behind his back over the years. Maybe he expressed a disinterest/dislike in signing so many autographs requests and others then took that and ran with it in their own way. In any case, there are clearly lots of reasons for people to question his/his family's/his organization's integrity about this over the years. The latest example of giving bad autographs for $50/$100 takes the cake. It is nobody's fault but theirs.
My main objective as this point is to get one good autograph. I've tracked down another copy of the Sun LP I originally had signed. I'm leaning toward sending it, a photo of the bad-pen autograph I received for my money the first time around and $100 in cash to Judith, politely explaining my thoughts and asking her to do whatever she deems appropriate.
