Star Wars Collectors Unite!

I have been collecting Star Wars autographs since 1998. Not all of my signatures are on Star Wars memorabilia. For example, when I met Warwick Davis at a comic convention in New York City, I had him sign a Willow photograph. I also have publicity photos of Sir Alec Guinness and Christopher Lee from the 1970s, and a Natalie Portman signed The Diary of Anne Frank theater poster from her performance on Broadway back in 1998. My current wish list includes Peter Cushing, Terence Stamp and John Williams. I am interested in knowing about the collections and wish lists of other members.

Pete, I am concerned about the printed style of Jerome Blake's autograph. It does not appear to be scripted enough. I agree that the Ray Park autograph is typical of his signing habits in 2000, which is the time period that this item was reportedly autographed. I also agree that the George Lucas autograph is atypical. My overall concern with the item is simply this. If more than one of the autographs concern us, why would the other autographs that appear to be typical be authentic? I think that JXE may be onto something when he states that JSA picked the worst possible half to get wrong.

From 1996 thru 2005 ....that was my heaviest time period for travel and conventions. In that stretch, just standing in lines watching the people around me, and what they got signed, made me sick.

Jerome printed his signature fully with very little connection between letters at his signings in NYC collectibles shops and at Chiller in 1999 and 2000. By 2002 when he attended C2 his signature started connecting letters and had more of a script feel to it.

This is just another case of someone buying a piece of junk, probably off ebay, and taking it to a nearby show and adding names at the convention.

I know what you mean. I watched a guy at last October's Chiller drop hundreds on having Robert MacNaughton sign a pile of ET stuff with fake Spielberg, Williams and Barrymore signatures on them. It looked like Dee Wallace was the only other real thing on them, so the guy probably thought he was gonna get rich buying up stuff on ebay and then finishing them off at cons.

Exactly! There was a stretch in the late 1990's when there was one source flooding the market with Star Wars 8x10's all signed by the same hand....that all had horrid fakes of Ford with big loopy tops to the H and F, Carie Fish....not Fisher, Mark Hamills that look like a heart beat monitor and James Earl Jones with no definition to the letters.....hundreds of them sold, and I have seen dozens of them getting signed by Mayhew, Baker, Daniels et al.....at random conventions.

The guys signing at these shows are getting paid ....no matter what they sign, and they are not autograph experts or collectors. They don't know any better.

I learned some valuable lessons in those lines. Most "civilians" (non-serious graphers) don't want to know the truth. It will be bad enough when they try and sell the pieces.....I tried to be kind and save them the money they were wasting, and I was told where to stick it. So now I offer my help when it's asked for and only when it's asked for.

I knew all I had to do was look on ebay and I'd still find these things being sold....... the worst of the late 1990's fake SW graphs look just like these.
