Hello. This is my first time posting here and I am thankful that there is a community site dedicated to this sort of thing.

I have what may be a authentic Kurt Cobain signature and have been researching it for myself to try and see if it's the real deal.  I don't have any background history about the signature and Kurt's signature does change from signing to signing such as the added d in Kurdt, also sometimes it's in cursive and then sometimes it's just plain Kurt in printed text.

Anyway, I'll get to the interesting part;

The unauthenticated Kurt Cobain autograph is this;

Here are some samples of authenticated Kurt Cobain signatures I have found on the net with the first in my opinion of which most closely matches the aforementioned signature and peace sign;

And then again the unauthenticated signature;

What are the thoughts and opinions of the community on this signature?

I really appreciate the assistance and I'm thankful that such an awesome sight exists for people like us who do this for the love of the artist and their music.

Also, everyone please support the ongoing investigation into Kurt's death.

And the new movie based on the case files collected by PI Tom Grant;

Thank you so much.

Hello and welcome to our community.

In my opinion the original posted Kurt Cobain with the peace sign is not authentic. And I also have to say the same with most of the examples that you have posted to comparison. And that is the big problem with authenticate Kurt's signature. There is to few confirmed authentic autographs to go after.

So finding an authentic Kurt Cobain autograph is not easy. Good Luck and sorry about the bad news.

Thank you. I will keep searching.  Now if we could just prove he was murdered and didn't commit suicide I could sleep a little better at night.

Thanks for the welcome and luckily I didn't pay for the signature.

I agree with Bjarne, this is not a real Kurt signature and the others all appear fake also. Sorry.

Same person signed most of the above signatures you posted. But it was not by Kurt Cobain. I have to agree with Bjarne and Richard. :D

Thank you all for your opinion on this signature. I had the sneaking suspicion that they all might be fake, yet wanted to believe it is real, and sure enough, everyone here confirmed that they are mostly indeed fake..

This means a lot to me.

Thank you all so much for confirming this.

Actually, I think the "Love Buzz" signature is real.  Take a look here; http://www.sliver.it/nirvana/test/pages/other/love_buzz/587.html

Krist would have signed Chris if this Love Buzz was signed when it came out 1988. He started to signed Krist in 1992. Dave Grohl did not play on Love Buzz. Dave Grohl would signed Chad on all the earlier album that he did not play on if he was asked to signed. Here is a Bleach LP that was signed in 1990. The name Chad was signed by Dave Grohl!!

I understand and agree with that, though I invite you to read the back story about this particular Love Buzz signature here; http://www.sliver.it/nirvana/test/pages/other/love_buzz/587.html

http://www.sliver.it/nirvana/test/index.html is dedicated to tracking real and counterfeit Nirvana memorabilia.

That site gives details about different Nirvana memorabilia and their back stories and includes a section for conterfeits and fakes.

This would have been signed later, after Dave had joined the band.

It seems legit to me and explains about the Dave signature and the fact that later Chad actually signed over it.

I have read the post. From the post I would assume that the owner said this was from the 1000 ltd edition release. It would have been around 1989. Like I said that Krist would not have signed Krist back in 1988 or 1989 which was when Love Buzz was released. He would have signed as Chris!!  Also the Chad Channing autograph on it is not authentic. Chad Channing always signed his name with a Z and a sun under his name!!  Also the Krist is not authentic. Everything just doesn't adds up.

Okay, I do understand the entirety of everything you just said and agree that it really doesn't add up. My only confusion is that, since it was probably faked, how come the person who faked the signatures did not just fake Chad's signature to make it seem as real as possible. Why even forge Dave's sig instead of Chad's in the first place. My only thought is that the album is real and they just screwed up and put Dave on there first and then needed to fix it, so the whole part about Chad later signing it made more sense. I really don't know. What is your opinion?

If we put the story to the side and only look at the autographs on the Love Buzz 7", I see issues with more than one of the autographs. The first issue I see is Chad's autograph. It doesn't look like an autograph you sign to a person who have been driving over the US just to see you. You usually take your time and make a real nice autograph for that person. (At least that is my experience.)

Second we have the Dave autograph. I know that he rarely signed his real name on any record that he didn't play on and here we have two David autographs on a record he don't play on. And with this style of autograph, the record should have been signed around 1993-1994.

I also think it's hard to tell from the picture who signed his autograph first. David or Chad?

If you look at the Nirvana page, you will see how few examples of their signatures that they have. It only shows how rare it is with genuine Nirvana autographs.

And you will be surprised how far people will got to try to convince you that their autographs are real.

So I'm still leaning against not genuine on the Love Buzz 7".

Too bad it is an expensive piece of junk vinyl now for 2000 uk£. Actually the album itself if it was not signed with all these fake autographs is still worth up to USD1000.00 to some collectors.
