Tom Brady - A Bit Ridiculous?

I just received this email from New England Picture who does many autograph signings in the Mass area. Does anybody else think $900-1k for an autograph signing is a bit ridiculous, especially if you aren't even going to meet him? I know Tristar's signings were at around $600, which was ridiculous on its own, but now $1k??!?

Would anybody actually pay for this? Just wanted some opinions from other members.

TriStar just announced a signing today. Prices start at $650. Is this company just going through TriStar and tacking on a premium?

Even that price is sick.  I thought $150 for Aaron Rodgers a few years back was bad.

I'm sorry, but the guy has a barely legible TB.  Non-effort signature for people who are paying beyond premium prices.  $650 for something that just looks bad and is difficult to authenticate without a magic sticker?  All that is is a screwjob for his fans.  There's nowhere for the value to go but down.

I 100% agree with you Rich. I'm hoping all the money he will be getting will at least go to some sort of charity.

Wasn't rodgers getting $600? At least here in Wisconsin I'm pretty sure he was.and his auto is terrible as well!

Rodgers was something like $150 - 175 for 8 x 10's.  Maybe $200 or a bit more for 16 x 20's.  Inscriptions were $60 each.  This was through Denver Autographs.  Waukesha Sports Cards probably had comparable prices.  Steiner and MM were higher, but still nowhere near what Tristar is charging for Tom.

And that was for an athlete who basically had done VERY few signings prior to that SB win.  He was actually a bit of a tough autograph to find.  It was very difficult to find an authentic one with solid provenance on Ebay in the weeks leading up to SB 45.

So here you have Waukesha Sports as you stated and Legends of the Field....legends of the field was for sure charging up the behind. Their always high on their prices and framing. As I know their family! Besides the point but Rodgers wasn't a tough autograph you just need to live here and know where to get him and when he's around. They've been having a major charity golf tourney here for years...and that's how I got Unitas, Favre, Blanda, Starr and every old packer HOF!

In person, maybe not.  But as far as authentic items from signings (i.e. authenticated items from a rock solid source), there really wasn't much.  I remember Radtke having a limited supply at one point.  Legends never seemed to have much in the Rodgers department prior to SB45, and I don't think I even knew about Waukesha at that point.

Isnt in person an authentic autograph? why does everything have to come from a company to be deemed authentic or rock solid? For all anyone knows they could be doing the same thing as the forgeries. Not saying they are but like everything it's taking someone's word. I'd rather see it signed myself than I know for sure it's real! I understand your point that these companies have a reputable name but that's like going to McDonalds and them telling me its all beef!

Waukesha sports was in transitioning to a new bigger place around then. They were changing the city around and I think they had to go. They had been in the same place for years.

I asked my dad and he said $375 was what he was charging here. That's w/o inscriptions.

Agree, I'd rather get it myself.  But the sports market is just a different breed.  Is investing in a Rodgers signed for a reputable company with a rock solid reputation better than buying it off of some random dude?  I think so.  In the case of most sports scribbles that are difficult if not impossible to authenticate on the basis of the signature alone, getting it from a source with a good reputation will pay significant dividends should you ever wish to sell it.

Agreed...but if you've read the thread on here about RR getting sued...even these reputable companies are being questioned. People noted how people were switching out fake balls during a signing to get authenticated. So as I agree it's easier to just pay the piper...everyone's a random dude unless you truly know them!

That might be it Steve. I know this company charged a little more for a signing that Jeter was doing with Steiner.
