Hi Diane,

Could you please upload the LOA from E.C. Bryan? That will probably tell us who sold it originally.

I would but not really being familiar with the art industry once I received the paper work from JSA who I believed to be more reputable I threw the ECBryan on away  I have a scan of it  somewhere in my sons computer down south.

Thanks, Diane. The reason I asked is that I've never seen a genuine autographed item offered with E'Lyn Bryan authentication. That doesn't mean they don't exist, but I've never seen one.

And to be frank, I don't think JSA's Florida office is anywhere near as reliable as their main office in New Jersey. Since you live in Florida, I imagine you took it to their local facility.

I don't think anyone knows Jerry Garcia's autograph better than Roger. But online opinions are far less reliable at detecting one-off copies of genuine autographs than authentication in person is. I recommend asking Roger how comfortable he is that this could not be a print, considering that another member said he that has the original. The more time goes on, the harder it will be for you to get a refund from the seller if it turns out to be a copy.

I just hope Gratefulphish can get a picture to compare to help clear the air.

At this point, Diane, it almost seems as if your best bet is sending it to Epperson for his actual authentication, which can only be done with it physically in front of him. As he is the expert, it sounds like it's the best way to be as sure as you can be in this hobby.

That said, I can understand not wanting to send this high a priced item through the mail. In the long run, it would probably worth it, as an authentic sale price will eat all the authentication fees.

If you do, I wouldn't throw away the JSA authentication. Having both would most likely be a plus.

It must be in another league to authenticate artwork such as  famous people like Garcia and Lennon, to identify prints that have been signed to original pieces to forgeries.

I want to clarify my prior post.  This drawing is not "identical" to mine, but similar.  Both have an almost self portrait of Jerry, with the word "Earth" written on the forehead.  Mine also has the "Sun," in the upper left corner, with lines of sun rays coming down toward the face/earth, and with beads of sweat coming off the face/earth.  They are NOT the same drawing, only a similar concept.  In no way am I suggesting that this is not genuine because it is a copy of what I have.  I hope that resolves this part of the issue.

Thank you.  To be honest all I want to do is try and sell this piece for my son so that he can use the money to pay off some of his student debt.  I don't want to keep it or anything I just would like to find a buyer for it.  As of now I have it posted on "Art brokerage" hoping that it will sell someday soon.  Thank you all for your input and if anyone might know of someone who would be interested in purchasing this please let me know

Somebody needs to explain something to me. Why is it people come here, want our opinions (usually because they're selling stuff, and most times it is forged)...and they act like we're attacking them? Seriously...next time somebody accuses us of that, let's really attack them with words.

All of us are experts, to some degree. We do this as a hobby, and we know a lot more than the person next door, or at the local pawn shop, etc. Certain people, know more about Eagles signatures than Joe Walsh. Others, know more about the Doors than Robby Kreiger would.

I swear, the people on here just get so annoying sometimes. NO offense Diane, I understand you just want to sell the piece, but you have to realize what a really big deal selling forged pieces are. EVERY ONE OF US, have been burned in the past, buying high end items that weren't authentic. And we post our thoughts.

Your right Josh, people just blow through trying to sell stuff not necessarily bad people but most of the times like Diane's sketch is more than likely a fake, it comes down to provenance with art.

There was a bloke trying to sell his John lennon , saying his parents had it signed in a Chinese restaurant but it looks like no one would authenticate it fake or not it looked real. One time blow inn. Ricky d probably her son, no I don't believe that but attacking her, yeah right.

Give the sketch back to your son Di and let him deal with it. If this were real people would jump on it quick smart. I honestly don't believe its a real sketch from the history of it.

Nope, Just trying to be a level head. Gratefulphish confirmed one of my points in that it isn't an exact copy. Whatever. @Paul, it was just annoying you asked multiple times to which she already answered, but that was explained by you being on the fly and me checking the date. One post was months ago.

I was also pointing out if it is a forged art piece, but authentic signature, it's an odd placement for a signature and I would "assume" Garcia wouldn't sign art that wasn't his.

Before Paul had asked again, I only got the sense that Diane was being a bit oversensitive to questions. She did lead to more questions when she posted about authenticators without naming them, and not taking into account curiosity. Also not realizing that people would want as much information as possible on a high priced item.

I'm done with this thread. Have fun.

Just take Steve advice Di, he knows these people and company's in the states. Get a hold of Epperson to see if he can help you out.
