Cost of authentication service vs the value of signatures.

Here is a Sonic youth signed cd on ebay for 45 dollars or best offer.

How far will my fellow collectors go to have something authenticated, when the value of the autograph is less than the service involved, plus the cost of postage etc.

Is it that important to have a coa?

COA's mean little. However, it depends whom issues the COA as well. I want to get some of my collection authenticated as well but there's absolutely no way I can do that as I don't have the money.

That is a very good question. COA's are suppose to retain the value of the signature, so that the general public can see the little sticker on there and know (without doing any general research of their own) that it is authentic. However if the item is only worth $45 then how could anyone justify spending $100 to authenticate it?

That is where general knowledge and research has to come in play when you don't get these signatures yourself. I think a COA is necessary when selling (especially on eBay) if it is an item you don't plan on reselling then why bother? Also you never know if PSA will be a respectable company in 25-50 years and you will be stuck with these hideous stickers on them! I can't believe still how they put them on the front with the signatures as if PSA is the focus point of the piece. It shouldn't be that way.

Well said Adam.

Some might say that a autograph with a Psa or Tpa Coa ,will be indisputably sell for more. But its not necessary the case, it is just that the contemporary collector opts for a coa.

As far as vintage Autographs it worth while and the tpa's have my trust more so than the modern 90's autographs where im happy to buy without.
