"The Honeymooners" First Episode 1951 "Bread" Original Cast Gleason Kelton Vintage Album Pages

Hi All,

Let's try this again. As my previous Gleason was indeed a vintage secretarial (quite different than the "Gleason Secretarial" of the 1970's/80's), I sought a vintage album page after consulting a few sources and the known period exemplars at thecead.com etc. I hope you enjoy this new set. Vintage album pages signed in fountain pen from the original cast - Jackie Gleason and Pert Kelton (the first Alice Kramden). Kelton would later play Alice's (Audrey Meadows) mother. This Gleason signature, a very scarce early example, is dated August 29th, 1951 - the show would have its premiere just a month later, on October 5th. The Kelton is also not common and dates to C. 1950. The first episode was titled "Bread" and lasted all of 6 minutes. It was an argument about...bread. Imagine - no Norton!

Best wishes,

                  Eric

Some Notes re Jackie Gleason:
I have spent a lot of time pursuing this, reading the pages here regarding the 70's secretarials (this is not one), weeding out 50's secretarials (this is not one I know), getting exemplars from thecead, RR, here and many other places. Modern forgeries do not stand up very well. I have about 35 or more scans I am using. The vintage examples owned by terrier8HOF, Bob Shinn, Tom Kramer of Golden Age @thecead, Bobn Eaton at R&R @thecead, and that odd PSA/DNA cut "To Ed" were most helpful. From all I can see, examining all to scale, upside down, backwards and in negative for ink disperal, this is a genuine vintage Gleason. Any and all opinions most welcome. I have many studies and scans - but can't post them here.

This is a Pert Kelton autograph just a few months before she died in 1968.  This was her signature about the time she appeared as Alice's mother.  She is best known as "Mrs. Paroo" in The Music Man. I have the letter also it was from JG Autographs.

Hi Scott,

That is a really nice example. The "Pert" shows the same basic form some 15 years later or more and in felt tip - very helpful. Thanks!

Eric

Hi Eric finally found the letter that accompanied the photograph.  This was signed the same year she died about six or seven months before.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for posting that - wonderful items to have together!

Eric
