I got this blind stamped Hurrel photo about 15 years ago allegedly signed by Errol Flynn and dedicated to the Hollywood USO in 1944. Did Flynn actually dedicate and sign it or is it a secretarial ?

In my opinion this photo is signed by Errol Flynn, The way the letters in Kindest Regards are formed confirms it to me.

Thanks; Another appraiser also verified your conclusion. I am somewhat relieved. I have quite a few EF autographs but this is my prized possession. I know he did a a lot of tours with the USO and I would have thought less of Errol if he had just a secretary sign this dedication to an organization he was so avid about. PJF

You're welcome Philip, I have an 11"x 14" of the same image signed by Flynn,

Also a couple of 8"x 10"s and cheques, I have one of the 8"x 10"s for sale on ebay UK. John

Yes I have one of his checks also. I just picked up a bargain 8x10 signed and dated 1941 (with the line across of course, one of EF's trademarks) dedicated to some "...Academy Post". I can't quite make out the name. But is was probably signed when Flynn was making "Dive Bomber" that same year in California. Signature conforms to the style of the late 30s to early 40's. PJF

I'm not so convinced. If I were you perhaps getting a TPA authentication should be considered. Here is a fairly good set of authentic examples listed by era. It's a outstanding signed photo and I do hope it is authentic but, if I were you, I would want a definitive answer. The photo itself has pretty good value.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it is a Hurrell, who by the way, Flynn could not stand ! PJF

Yes, I have pulled up the samples of EF's signature you so graciously supplied, , and I have seen them before while "surfing" on the Internet. I agree they are quite different and in my opinion, from the 40's. I have one EF dedicated to a "Captain Pi" who I guess was a friend or fan, and it is the same.  However, the " Kindest Regards" signature matches everything he ever signed. Maybe Perhaps it something no one will ever know but as a collector it sure is fun to discuss one's hobbies with others. Thanks PJF

Hi Philip can i ask is the photo 11"x 14" or 8" x 10"?

 11 x 14. Phil

I'm sorry, if you mean the Sepia Autographed photo I got with the dedication to "something" Academy Post dated 1941 , it is an 8 x 10

Hi Joe,

I agree - odd Flynn. One wonders if the other "kindest regards" are also secretarial? They seem to be on studio portraits mostly.

Eric

Autograph collecting is intriguing but also frustrating. Phil
