Ruth Real?

I'm trying to keep an open mind...

Just came across this ebay listing; the signature is unlike any I've seen in 37 years of collecting.  Anybody wish to weigh in?  Seen anything similar?  If it's bogus, does that imply that the LOA from Spence is also?  I'm just...in awe, I guess.  But again, I'm trying to keep an open mind.  Like most people on this site, I'm here to learn.

Ian, That's a strange comment. I've had this for over 25 years....who said anything about re selling? I had thought this was a serious discussion about autographs, not a question of "Fandom". Did I strike a nerve somehow?

Ok, fair enough. I don't like either one. But Ruth is not my area. I picked it up in a trade. The Darvick cert added weight at the time. I've had the damn thing sitting in a draw, saw this ball on here and saw similarities.

Authentication has come a long way in the last 25 years.

Herman Darvick is a legitimate authenticator although sports autographs is not his specialty. Would be interesting to get his current opinion on it.

Ruth autographs in ball point pen though certainly possible, are very rare. I have only seen a few authenticated ones.

I don't think this one is authentic but I certainly could see it passing 25 years ago and you are correct that the "b" is similar to the one on the baseball.  

I would try to get a new opinion from Herman.

Richard Simon is also reasonable on authentication fees for Ruth  and is also a member here.

One subject that hasn't come up. Nearly pristine single singed Ruth balls have been hitting the market more frequently in the last decade. And it seems people are putting more faith in the PSA letter than they are in the provenance. 

I'm very skeptical that all these beautiful white single signed balls are real. I'm no expert on the signature. But, when something previously rare seems to be more and more common, something aint right. Especially when that something sells for $25,000 to $100,000.
