117 years ago at 2:30 PM in the US! Saturday, Nov. 16th, 1907, the Maiden Voyage of the Cunard Express Liner Mauretania.

Leaving the Princes Landing Stage in Liverpool at 7:30 PM on Saturday, November 16th, 1907 with a crowed of 20,000 people in attendance. Photographed from the Cunard Building.

Here she is getting ready to depart NY on November 30th. It was on this return voyage she would first win the Westbound Blue Ribband and hold it for 22 years. An original photographic card in my collection. The fog mentioned delayed her initial speeds, but she soon overtook the Baltic which had left NY some time earlier.
