Hi Richard,
Here are my concerns:
The album was released in August of 1979. Bon died February of 1980. Not a lot of time to sign it!
Authentic Bon autographs that I have seen do not look like this.
I have spent a lot of time with Angus since Back in Black came out (never saw them with Bon - dangit!) and have never seen him sign a continuous line signature that I can remember. There has always been a space between Angus and Young. When he does that he drops the g in Angus as it should be written.
The Malcolm is another continuous line autograph, which is atypical for him from what I have seen.
Most band members will sign AC/DC after their names. Back in the day Malcolm was often the one who wouldn't! Malcolm's autograph was messier back then, too. I feel that he and Cliff actually began to sign more neatly with time. They are proud to be members of AC/DC!
One thing to be cautious of with AC/DC - Phil hates to sign. Not that I haven't seen autographs that are signed by the whole group, but I knew people that got in-persons and many are lacking Phil because he made a point of not being around.
This is my quick two cents worth that I am only suggesting as a point of reference. If that album is authentic it's pretty much an AC/DC Holy Grail! I'll be interested to see what others have to say.
Hi Richard, I hope it's good, too. I will find and pull some examples and post them here in the next couple of days. The good news, as you probably know, is that they did play in Munich as described: http://acdctourdates.com/1979-acdc-tour-dates.htm In the process I'll share a couple of mine that I purchased from someone in England a long time ago and maybe we'll find that those aren't real!
Hi Richard,
I noticed that this Autograph Magazine Live! web site has some exemplars from Roger Epperson that you should check out: http://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/my-3-x-ac-dc-lps-sig...
Here's a picture from the book Highway to Hell: The Life and Death of AC/DC Legend Bon Scott, which is a good read (if I'm not mistaken, Mary was Bon's good friend and Graeme is Bon's brother):That same photo is found here in a web site from someone who knew and worked with Bon: http://trevormarshall.com/bon.htm
The following pictures are from a Powerage album and shirt that I purchased from a guy in England in 1996. I'll add his comments from our correspondence at the bottom. Angus signed in red pen that is faded and very light so it's not here, but from the imprint one can see that it matches up with other authentic examples from the time. Phil didn't sign either item for reasons explained below. These items would have been signed on May 22, 1978 at Colston Hall, Bristol, UK. I hope that this helps you and others!
Whilst at our very first AC/DC show (of the 19 I attended) in Bristol
Colston Hall, England on the Powerage tour, my friend and I both snatched a cover
each from the display in the Foyer of the venue. We then waited around at the back of
the place by the stagedoor all day waiting and hoping to get to meet the band, which
luckily we did on their way into the soundcheck late afternoon. The first person we saw
was Bon and grabbed him quickly to sign the sleeves. (I met him a further 8 times over
the years) Angus was just behind him and we got him next. Then there
was a guy we thought was the roadie but turned out to be Cliff (we didn't
recognise him) so we got him next but in doing so Phil shot passed us and inside so
we missed him, then Malcolm came up and we got him to sign. It was great first time
I'd ever met them, Bon was brilliant really cool and funny etc a lovely guy.
One little anecdote that I have regarding Bon, My friend Pete and
myself and his elder sister Paula all went into to a local town called
Bristol to see AC/DC. This would've been on the Highway to hell tour.
Anyway we got there real early and were hanging around out back by the
stage door waiting for the band to arrive. Sure enough they did, and as
before it was mega-exciting for us all. First Angus came up with Malcolm
just behind him, we went up and asked for their autographs (these are on
paper and I am keeping by the way) they said "sure " obligingly as always
and signed the paper for us, then Phil came and went real quick
(apparently he never has been much of a one for signings etc finds it all
a little embarassing I'm told ?) Then Bon came up getting out of a
different car.
Well as always he was the main attraction and we were all
jostling around him talking to him and laughing, making chit chat, jokes
etc, while he signed the various things thrust in front of him. But Paula
Petes sister is giggling like a little school girl. Admittedly she was
only 16 but she was all hyper etc to be next to Bon. She is usually very
quiet and demure, anyway she's so excited she almost let's Bon walk off
without his autgraph, but before he can she realises and shouts loudly
"what about me" Bon turns and laughs and grabbing the magic marker says
"what do ya want me to sign?" and just like that she lifts up her t-shirt
to reveal her breasts. Well, Bon didn't need prompting, he was in like
Flynn and signed her (rather large I might add) right boob with glee. But
being a gentleman too hands her back the pen and gives her a peck on the
cheek then walks off kinda giggling and skipping through the stage door
leaving us aghast. Never in my wildest dreams had I imagined someone
could have that effect on Paula.
We all laughed about it later, it all seemed really innocent fun
y'know? We never let Paula live it down of course ha! ha! ha!
I've had a few Bon's over the years but this Bon doesn't look right.
If yours is fake, mine is fake. I have a Highway to Hell with very, very similar signatures.
Hi Richard,
Here's a Bon autograph I purchased in 2006. It was from a fan who met the band at a concert in Glasgow in October 27th 1979. He had other members signatures which I will also post, may be of use for comparison. My Bon is almost identical to the one JJ posted from his Powerage album, which was from roughly the same era.
I read an article about the relationship between signatures and the spaces they share. I found the idea useful when comparing autographs.
