This is Allan Melvin (not the easiest to find) not a huge value on him, but he was prominent in at least four major television shows : The Phil Silvers Show (Bilko), Gomer Pyle USMC, The Brady Bunch and All in the Family.  He was a solid performer and had countless TV appearances and voice work in cartoons.  The following looks good to me but I am not an expert on him so would appreciate any ideas.

Hey Scott. I recently spent time researching Melvin, as I had needed him for my all in the family set. when i find it ill upload the piece I have; you are right, he is very hard to find.

Judging by the examples, I think this photo could be authentic.

Hey thanks appreciate it that Mike I knew I had responded to someone about Melvin earlier but forgot where.  In fact it was your post that got me to thinking I should try to find one lol.  The photo itself is on paper that is from the 70-80s.  The signature is smooth and no stops etc.  So I am optimistic on it lol.  I know you have studied the All in the Family group a lot for your collection.

Hey thanks Mike Warren appreciate that.  I studied it long and hard before I got it but a bit hard to get things to compare with.  I am glad you knew it. The photo I cropped the white border some but had the standard white border.

He did all sorts of voice work so he may well have been.  Yes he was the great nemesis of Sgt. Vince Carter.   Melvin is one of those great character actors that enhances anything he is in.  He played a tough guy in a few Andy Griffith Shows also.   Just checked and you are right he was in Magilla Gorilla and  Banana Splits making him all the more valuable to me lol.

Hi Mike do you recall if Melvin inscribed the ones you got?  The photo is a 3x5 with a plain back but clearly a photograph.  It seem there are so few exemplars of his out there.

Here is mine.  The picture you have looks similar.  I am a little concerned though; the examples I've come across, Melvin usually personalized photographs.  I could be wrong though; it does look good  to me despite that.  Maybe a safe bet would be to look for an inscribed photo; anything with more writing helps determine authenticity!  Even if it doesn't look as nice as would one that isn't inscribed.

I think you're safe though.

Hi there Mike P.  I am working on Allan Melvin again.  I contacted a friend of mine who was getting a lot of through the mail autographs back in the 1970-2000 time period.  He said that Melvin sometimes would not inscribe index cards and photos if requested.  Apparently sometimes he just never responded at all.  He sold most of his collection but said he would look to see if he had any left.   He said O'Connor always responded but I personally suspect most of those were secretarial.  There are a couple Melvin photos on ebay now could you take a look and give your opinion.  I am in hopes others with Melvin examples will put them on.  There is so little that I think it would be nice to have them posted on here.  I just bought an inscribed photo of his I will put on Monday if i get the chance.  The photo stock is exactly the same as the uninscribed one.  So we will have to see what we can come up with.
