Its not the first time this has happened, why do secretaries, in this case a PA have the need to ruin an autographed photo, where there’s a signature, why do they feel the need to dedicate? Unless it’s the stars dedication, why bother?
What are your thoughts on when this happens?

because they belive they have the right on behalf of the artist they work for and they actualy do 99 percent of the time.
in fact I know one very large artist that his employes signed for his charity and other stuff that was sent from his his office because they signed on his behalf the considerd it a real official autograph.
John is 100% correct but I understand your concern Zoe
If you send in an item for signing, it might be a good idea to include a personal note that states you don't want a secretarial. And if it's not possible to get the artist to sign, just have it sent back in original condition.
I am also of the like mind that secretarials are a waste of time and complete nonsense.
Thank you and yes, I have stated this in letters before.
Just my opinion, I want the actual photo/ item signed by the real deal, not staff, I don’t consider a staff signature to be an official signature of the person I requested.
there are actual companies that handle peoles fan mail . a lot of stuff gets foward to these companies also.
ill to try to put it as polite as possible they don't owe u an autograph just as u don't owe then a dime to see there movie or show or sport.
and anything that comes back signed real was done on there personal time from there personal space.
so its a give and give situation
kinda like a fan waiting outsie a bands tours bus they consider that there home .I know most people don't but the artist do ,its there space were the live for the next year. so that's why artists get touchy
Absolutely, I agree 100%.
I’m just one of those few- or many, that would prefer nothing, if not real.
They may have the right as the person in question has given them the authority to do so, but to me, it’s not what I am after and wouldn’t call it said persons real autograph.
Hand signed by said person, then yes.
May I just add, I was saying that when an artist has actually signed the photo-the secretary etc goes on to add a dedication, not when the secretary etc has signed.
Belive it or not 99.99 would never know the difference. They are just happy to have a autograph. And would cherish it the same way. Only if they went to sell it would the truth come out. This site is the minority of the world that's how the shops in Vegas and other places rip people off.
My guess is they have a stack of signed photos in the office. One to make it look like it was signed for u and 2 to take away the resale value
Every one says they will never sell .I wish I had a pennie for that saying. U might not but when u die someone will or u decide u want something else so it gets sold or flipped. So they protect themselves by personalizinng wich most dealers take off to sell any way. Question not that unlike them but are u saying the ttm was hand by coldplay just not the inscription.
They do it to appease fans. The intent is meant well. Don't think it is intentionally done to ruin an autograph. Most fans would never know these were done by someone else. Just like the secretarial sigs. Was intended to make fans happy not to make them money.
Yes, I understand :-) I, as a fan of the band was so happy to receive the autograph, just wish the PA stuck to the note she enclosed and not the photo as well :-)
Its just the autograph collector in me that sees the dedication as something done by the sec, I know if I was just a fan I wouldn’t have even paid attention to this…probably.
However, I’m pleased the topic has raised an open conversation and healthy debate.
Its great to hear everyone’s views.
