Any idea who this signature is??

On the back of an autograph book page signed by Ella Fitzgerald is a different signature (photo attached). I can clearly make out a "Webb" as the last name but cannot make out the first name.

Anyone have any ideas??

One thing you can do (I'm sure you've thoguht of this), is Google the name you can read, with the name Ella Fitzgerald. SOmetimes, things pop up. Someone that was touring drummer, or record producer. Google can really help out in these instances.

Hi - thanks for the reply. Yes I did try that and Google did keep coming back with a "webb" drummer that she performed with! But, it was a "Chick Webb" and imo that first name simply doesn't look like a "chick" to me. But maybe I'm wrong. What do you guys think?

Edit - I did some follow up on authenticated Chick Webb autographs. They really just don't look the same. The B's are never capitalized like this is. The "chick" isn't written as high and rounded like this. It's making me question the authenticity of the Fitzgerald.

That signature is in pencil? That is supposed to predate 1930?

At the bottom right hand in light pencil you can see a "1935." (no clue who added that or when)

That image is useless for the Ella. Chick Webb died in 1939 not 1930, my mistake. Where is this offered and by who? Why don't they show the Ella better? The Webb appears way off and that date...

Sorry about that. These images are from my own collection, I just have terrible lighting here so I took some better ones: Better Ella Signature Pics

The Ella cut was purchased from a very reputable Edward Bomsey. He made no note of the Webb autograph on the back and has no clue who signed it or when. That is why I didn't find it until just now, maybe a year after purchasing the Ella piece.
