Eddie, you have to ask yourself, are you doing this strictly to ensure easy profits or do you want to maximize the enjoyment out of this?  The reason being, you can easily buy 1 or 2 items and sit on them and sell them down the road for maximum profits or you can buy a few dozen items.  If you are in to simplicity and assured profits I'd suggest you go with a couple autographed guitars from B.B. King.  His signing habits have significantly decreased and despite his diminishing health, he still continues to tour like a madman.  He's touched the hearts of so many music fans and is clearly one of the greatest living legends alive.  I'd specifically suggest going for his signature model Gibson Lucille (not the cheaper Epiphone either) and would obviously caution to get only ones with PSA/DNA, UACC RD, or rock solid authentication attached.  I feel it's going to be very easy for you to set a price point in mind for buying 2 of these for under your budget and I feel your investment will simply continue to go up and you'll easily be able to double or triple your investment in just a few years.  Autographed guitars are in my opinion the best investment all around.  They are starting to become more and more a signature piece to every autograph collectors collection and once the FBI does a similar sting on music autographs like they did sports, the world will start to understand what I know already and that's simply that there are never more than a few real in-person autograph guys getting guitars signed.  Authentic autographed guitars are super rare and prices will continue to skyrocket.  If you do decide to go with our suggestion, feel free to contact me directly if you need help authenticating his signature on items in the future.  We've met him countless times and know his signature pretty well.

I'm in this hobby for the simple enjoyment of collecting, and not necessarily looking to make a profit.  That being said, contemporary autographs are generally not worth much, and current celebrities can be radioactive one day, and a has-been tomorrow.  Vintage autographs command higher prices, but you really need to do your homework before you buy.  Condition, content, and aesthetics can all have a major bearing on value (not just supply & demand).

With a budget of $7K you can buy almost anyone's signature (Einstein, Lincoln, Kennedy, etc.).

I have to agree with Mike Kasmar, as when you are looking for the best investment potential, you need to be looking for names that are still with us, not those that are already long gone.

Guitars are my favourite signed items, and i always take a couple along to any trade event as they create so much attention. I have a B B King signed lucile copy in my collection, and would certainly snap up another at the right price.

I recently wrote an article on autographs for investment, as this has been a question i have been asked more and more over the last coupe of years. The smart collectors are now much more interested in creating a collection with an eye on investment, rather than simply creating the biggest pile of autographs they can (although some still go down that route!).

Good Ali and Mccartney items will double in value in the next decade or so (my opinion). If I was investing like yourself, this is where I would look.

I tend to look at people who are older who may die in the coming years and who will be the icons of tomorrow. Diana Ross, Paul Mccartney, Fleetwood Mac etc in music, Clint Eastwood, Muhammad Ali etc are others. All of these will increase as these people die and go up significantly in value.

Eddie, a collection I am trying my best to build up is of famous inventors. They are relatively unknown people who have made tremendous contributions to our world, who I don't think sign a lot of autographs. You might want to look in that area, maybe? However, consult with the experets! I get these hair-brained ideas sometimes that don't always come out so good! :)
