Looks like this seller needs to stick with coins, and stop selling autographs.

That ball is not authentic. Perhaps the real autograph ball is still in your house but this isnt it.

I rewrote the title of this discussion to make it easier to find...and because forgeries aren't funny. Hope you don't mind.

No I don't mind. I thought about not using that title, but went with it anyway.  Sorry.

Sorry I'm responding so late. The reason I sent the Ruffing ball in was because it was $30 as apposed to $100 for the Mantle and because the Ruffing ball is worth 3-4 times the Mantle, it made sense. These balls came from a good friend who's father used to run a lot of public and private signings up in Connecticut and Massachusetts. He had his picture taken with a lot of the guys including Mantle and Ruffing and also Ted Williams but I will never sell my Williams. The pictures are at the shows behind the tables. I'm working on having him send me copies. As soon as I have them I will try to post for you. I'm going to pull the Mantle and when I sell the Ruffing I will send the Mantle in. I wasn't planning on selling any of it but times are tuff. I have another ball up for auction and there is no question on the authenticity. Its not worth much but I would like to know if Clemens signed it. I'm having a hard time understanding some of the autos but I'm far from a Toronto fan so I do want to get rid of it.

Thanks for the reply, Jay. I wouldn't send the Mantle in. Just get a Quick Opinion for $10 or less. Thanks for pulling it for now.

Well that good friends father got ripped off. Thats not authentic at all. Maybe he bought that one but there is not a chance its authentic. Sorry. You must remember this is what we do, when you see so many Mantles its easy to spot a fake. Even more so when its a poor fake as the one you have is sadly.

If you feel like throwing money out the window have PSA do a quick opinion. But be prepared to hear what everyone is telling you. Its not authentic

If you send your Mickey Mantle in.  It will not come back as genuine.  Then you would have wasted the money away that you received from your Ruffing ball.  The Mantle is fake.

rOB G, My good friends father got the balls directly from the players when he ran the signings back in the 70's and 80's. He told them he needed 1 for each of his 4 kids even though he only had 1 kid. When he passed away my friend and I liquidated a lot of his assets including about $65,000 in coins and gold. He gave me a few items when we got to the sports stuff and he still had about 50 balls bats and gloves along with personalized autographed photos with himself his father and Mantle among others. He didn't buy the balls second hand. As soon as I can get my hands on the pictures I will try to post them.

Jay,

the signature speaks for itself.  MIckey Mantle did not sign that ball.

No he didnt get them direct, sorry that isn't true. Unless the player were handing out bad forgeries.

Jay, I think just save your $100 on sending it in.

Here is an example of a Mick sig and you can see what is the difference.
