Anybody have any idea whether this is real or not? It was bought online but looks a little shaky to me

That’s autopen. I saw a few of these online. What happened was someone sent it to him and it was auto-penned. I found an exact match for this pattern. He also sent out autopen bookplates with this same pattern. Unfortunately I saw these sell for $400+ on eBay for the books and bookplates.

Thanks for looking into this, for the price I paid I'm definitely not surprised about it being autopen. Its a shame that this is becoming more common nowadays
