Yes...I know of him. I'm writing this up with the morning news...good catch!

Landau sentenced to seven years in prison.  Barry Landau was caught stealing documents from the Maryland Historical Society in July 2011. An investigation concluded the 64-year-old New York City resident stole at least 6,500 items worth more than $1 million from archives around the country.

Many of the stolen documents are more than 100 years old and some are worth more than $100,000. They include copies of speeches President Franklin D. Roosevelt read from during his three inaugurations, a land grant signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1861 and letters written by scientist Isaac Newton, Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee and novelist Charles Dickens. But the stolen artifacts also include smaller items such as photographs of President Calvin Coolidge and World Series baseball tickets from 1949. The earliest document dates from 1479.

and let's not forget his assistant and his accomplice Jason Savedoff who Landau claimed visited historical archives in order to steal.

I believe Landau deserves his 15 minutes of fame;

"The evidence proved that Barry H. Landau was a con artist who masqueraded as a presidential historian to gain people's trust so he could steal their property," said U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein in a news release.

Landau was ordered to pay a total of $46,525 to three dealers who bought documents from him without knowing they were stolen and to forfeit the more than 10,000 documents found in his New York apartment. More than 6,000 of them were stolen, prosecutors said.

Savedoff, also of New York City, has pleaded guilty to the same charges. No date has been set for his sentencing.

What a couple of tools.
