I'm wondering if anyone could tell me if this cut check by Charles Radbourn is legit. From my understanding he was illiterate until later in his life when he only learned to sign his name. I think this could be why there are two clearly different handwriting syles on the check. My guess is that he had somebody fill out the check and he signed it. From what I've seen on PSA it looks similar. Any thoughts would be appreciated. The first photo is the cut check I own and the second is what I found on PSA. Thanks

still looking for any help on this.  Thanks

Bumping to see if any new information is out there.

The 1870 Census indicated that he couldn't write, but he could read. He was 14 in 1870--and his next youngest brother, age 13, could both read and write--and was attending school, but Charles wasn't in 1870. So you may very well be right about his inability to write anything except his name.
