Consigning with an auction house

Can anyone tell me what a typical consignment costs? Is it worth it? Im sure the extra eyeballs help and Ive got a stubborn item or two Id like to move. Just never done the whole auction house thingy. Thanks in advance.

I do not have the inventory as others, nor have I sold any music or entertainment at auction - only sports memorabilia. The best that I have been treated was by Robert Edwards auction house. Very professional, they treated me like my item was a gem even though the value is $2,500. The consignor fee was lower than anything listed. I was offered that by most (except Heritage whose customer service is not the greatest)
