For the longest time - about 20 years - I resolutely held on to my wonderful copy of The Orchard Keeper, his first novel, in the hope that one day I would get it signed. And then, eventually, I realized it would never happen, so I sold it :(

I finished reading The Crossing the day before he passed. Weird. It was my first McCarthy book.
