"As a citizen of the US, Eddy, you may not be covered but my instinct (I would have to look into it more) is that the law applies to European retailers regardless of the physical location of customers. If you use eBay at all - I’m sure most…"

"Hi Michelle, I am afraid to say that it does apply in the UK as well even though no longer a member of the EU.  It sounds like you have been bullied into accepting that particular transaction. They can threaten all they like but they cannot do…"

"Eddy,  this is true in the US but not within the European Union where consumer protection is more...protective.  You have a 14-day "breathing" period during which you can return an item you have already received from the seller…"

"If the auction house is in Europe you do not need to proceed with paynent if you do not wish to. EU law trumps Auctioneers Terms and you have a two-week window to withdraw from the transaction. There will be consequences - you will be banned from…"

"Sadly, this is a fairly routine event in provincial auction houses across the UK.  There is no end of them and the stories are remarkably similar, usually - I am not suggesting there is any kind of conspiracy going on. It's a generational…"

Findbooks replied to Garrett Meadows's discussion Anyone heard of Autograph Man in the UK?
"Never heard of them but they look legit. Not a lot of autographs there that I would be willing to give an opinion on but the pricing seems sensible. They also point out that the certificates of authenticity that accompany some items are incidental -…"

About Me

What kind of member are you? (Check as many as apply.)
Collector, Dealer, Other Professional
What would you like to tell us about yourself, your collecting, or business.
Collector and catalogue/internet bookseller since 1990. I chose to become interested in signed books from the beginning because very few others seemed to specialize in these at that time.

Although it is a fairly commonplace business model nowadays

With the very notable exceptions of Stephen King and Cormac McCarthy I believe I have personally obtained in-person autographs from the vast majority of the most prominent authors of the past 30 years including winners of the Nobel prize for literature. Many of these encounters have been the most fascinating or memorable experiences in my working life and I feel privileged to have had them.
