Does matting/framing increase value of autograph?

Hi,

Due to circumstances, i am going to thin down my autograph collection by selling some items.

Would it be a good a good idea to get items professionally mounted/displayed? Or would this outlay not significantly increase value enough to be worth it? The items i will be selling will be a mixture of signed pictures and signed autograph book pages (value aprox £200-£300 each)

Yes all of which costs the seller money and that adds little to no value. I have frames in my house and if I was looking at a graph in a brand new nice frame BUT it was the wrong color it would add no value and actually cost me money to get the right frame which fits with mydecor.

I always ask if they will sell the item without the frame and most of the time they have no problem doing that, which cuts down the cost of the item and shipping dramatically.

Framed autographs with nice matting and accompanied related material do sell well in stores and at fairs. But at auction or on-line collectors generally don't want the frames since they are difficult to mail and store.

I think I've purchased maybe two or three items that were already framed. One of them I considered asking the seller if she could take the photo out before mailing so that it would be easier. In retrospect, I'm really glad I didn't. Turns out the framing company was Framous LTD, a well-known company who is known for it's music industry awards displays (the photos had been a gift to Island Records employees). That's probably an exception to the rule though.
