Wow! That is crazy. Great song though - re: the infamous plane crash.
And how's this for crazy. The original rules of basketball(2 pages), which were typed up in 1891 and signed by the game's inventor, Dr. James Naismith, in 2010 sold at auction at Christie's or Leland's for $4.3 million!
The buyer was Mr. David Booth, a graduate of the University of Kansas. He then turned around and gave the Original Rules to the University of Kansas (KU) to showcase. The business school at the University of Chicago is also named after him: University of Chicago - Booth School of Business. He also has an MBA from Chicago and donated $300 million to that school!
James Naismith also was the first basketball coach at KU and founded the basketball program at Kansas. He lived in Lawrence, Kansas for 41 years, and is buried there. I also have his autograph! (But it's not worth $4.3 million - because it's not on the Original Rules!).
Sorry, for going off on a tangent, Paul. But the University of Kansas is where I went to school too. And when Mr. Booth bought those two pieces of paper for $4.3 million, well...it created quite a buzz.
Back to the lyrics. That really is an iconic song IMO. Anytime these big money people spend that kind of dough on memorabilia, I just am amazed at how easy it is for them to drop a big dime. All I can say is I sure wish I had it, because there would be a lot of Beatles stuff added to my collection!
