The first example is no good Rob...
The second I want a bit more time on...
I'll be back.....lol
I agree with Don. I like the 2nd one a lot and its cool to have Leiber & Stoller on there.
Hi again Robb...
I've not seen a Leiber and Stoller set of signatures on any other U.S. bi-centennial item and frankly I'm not sure it makes a great deal of sense. I've seen them sign Jailhouse Rock stuff and even sign the Elvis postage stamp first issue offerings from the U.S. post office in 1993.Those items make sense. This is just a "different" sort of item to have them sign...they really have no more to do with the U.S. bicentennial than I do...unless of course Elvis signed first and then Leiber and Stoller were added later. That would make more sense...
Now what about the "Elvis Presley" that accompanies L & S ??? We're 99 per cent sure that the item, if genuine was signed post July 4th 1976. What do we think of the signature ?? For me I'm not completely convinced it's real. There are some very good things that show up and there's more right than wrong but I'd like to hear the background information if there is any to offer a better opinion. It's certainly NOT a slam-dunk by any means.
Looking forward to hearing more opinions...
Hi Don & Steve,
Thanks for your responses. I find it interesting with elvis as he is a tough one... I now agree and believe the first example is not authentic now that you guys have established issues with it.
As for the second one. I don't want to count it out just yet, Do you guys think that somebody could forge those 3 signatures that flowing and that well on that first day cover like that?
Good question Rob...
I am not fully convinced that the 2nd item is what it purports to be...that's all I'm saying. Are the L & S signatures real....probably but like I said that's a bit of an odd piece to have them sign. Just a simple observation.
Now we know that Elvis, a proud American, was all "hepped" up about the bicentennial. More reason for his signature to be on this than the other guys. Elvis sang "America...The Beautiful" in concert in 1976 every chance he got! I'm not saying these are not real. But....I'm not entirely sold on the Elvis signature...and I'm not entirely sold on the 3 of them together on THIS item.
Have you got any background info on it ?? I'd like to see what our vendor has to say...
Ive gotten L&S in person and these look OK , but I am not THAT familiar with them. I can post mine if it helps
the first one is way off, the second one also has issues. doubt either one is authentic.
I think Mr. Siebert has said it much better than I did.
I've seen very few Elvis signatures from '76 or '77. He was increasingly reclusive. It's a dream grouping but an odd (to me) item.
After visiting the sellers website and getting a feel for their field of expertise etc. I wouldn't recommend this to a friend.
Yes looking at it again, I now think the 2nd one is also not good. For one thing, the E in Elvis is taller than the l. Didnt notice that before. Not a good sign.
