Hello All -

I am a huge Elvis fan and have been searching for a REAL autograph for a while.  I found a person selling a signed ELVIS PRESLEY first edition ELVIS book by Jerry Hopkins (Copyright 1972).  I have not purchased the book yet, but I paid for it to get authenticated by PSA.

I just got a "authenticity questionable" from PSA.   I have not gotten the full letter back from PSA to see their exact findings - but aren't most of those letters generic.

I have had others (very reputable) in the field look at it and they thought it was real.

Thoughts??

Please see attached photo of the auto

thanks!

Mark

This isn't authentic in my non-expert opinion.

You know, I don't like this but I'm not sure it's not good. You need to bump it upstairs. Put a link on Roger Epperson's profile asking if he'd mind giving you an opinion. He knows Elvis better than anyone.

this is without question authentic and I would love to have it

I'm not surprised. It's looser and more free-flowing than I'm used to seeing. I didn't like it at all at first, but the more I looked at it, the more it made sense. How much is it worth?

Strange. It looks off to me and it's already quite odd to have a signed book. Interesting item then.

Here is one signed in similar style very tight almost all over the dedication. :)

Well.. its OFFICIAL - I just got the book back from PSA and the letter states that it did NOT pass PSA/DNA authentication.

I called them and asked if Rich Consola (their Elvis Expert) actually looked at this and they did not know.. and they did not know if they could even give out that information.  I am waiting on a call back.

Any Elvis that's not obviously fake should be looked at by their specialist. He's tough.

Hmmm let's think about this answer. Shouldn't their Elvis authenticator be looking at ANY ( meaning EVERY FREAKING ONE ) Elvis submission?how is that even a question for them? I wonder how many other Elvis submissions weren't looked at by him? I wonder how many non-authentic Elvis autographs were passed by a non-Elvis expert?

Finally, how many people like yourself sent the item to PSA with the understanding that the Elvis expert would be the one rendering the opinion?

HHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMM! I'm sure there is a wonderful California style political answer to it though.

I agree, Brandon. People pay for authentication because they want the expertise. With that said, authentication places usually aren't comfortable sharing their methods or details about the authentication of an item - which they may not even know.

Which is why the expert should be ready and willing to explain their findings at any time.

Unless it's an expert who is guessing, they have reasoning and hopefully examples to back up each opinion.
