Finally, Tallulah Bankhead on a 1944 Lifeboat Keybook Still Signed in 1945!

Hi All,

At long last, a1944  Lifeboat key book photo dedicated, inscribed and signed in  fountain 1945 by Tallulah! Looking for this for ages. Photo by Frank E. Hughes, repurposed for the 1945 play Foolish Notions with blurb on back. Beneath is a key book still from Lifeboat. Yes, the SP is trimmed, but so is my Gleason. Considering how long I have waited for this signed photo I can deal with it.

I had this as a place holder C. 1930 by another known photographer. What in improvement I just acquired - it is very important to me to get a signature from the period of my favorite film on an original still or promotional item. At one time I had the whole cast of this film (apart from the baby which was a doll and the German kid at the very end).

An interesting aside; Henry Hull, who played Rittenhouse in Lifeboat appeared in Foolish Notions at one point with Bankhead..

Any opinions on this one?

After going over several folders there are very few images from this film signed. The closes I can find as far as date is this from RR below and I was not impressed. This is also trimmed. It was used as the cover photo for about 10 years for various appearances and productions. There are several portraits from this period but very few (3?) images from this film - and fewer that I have seen signed. Less than a handful. Much less.

PS - The RR still is not from Lifeboat.

Here is another - same period more or less but not from the film. Compares favorably to the OP OMO:

After going through more, the OP is one of the very, very few signed stills from this film I have seen an I have been looking for a long time. The first cast set I finished this set in 2006 or so. That was a vintage album page. . Would the slight trim turn anyone away from this SP?

Thoughts anyone?

Well, after discussion in PM with some members to confirm what I thought, this item it has arrived. Due to some emulsion cracks the end price was $60 plus shipping. Buying raw can't be beat.

Oh yes, Bankhead signed this when Foolish Notions was having it's two week trial run at the Colonial Theater in Boston starting February 5th, 1945. The three names in the dedication are the daughters of a local man who worked at the Colonial. The play was transferred to Broadway for opening on March 13th at the Martin Beck Theatre. Lifeboat premiered in NYC on January 11th, 1944 so this is very close indeed!

Aha - this is not trimmed! It is just 9" x 8"! It looks trimmed as the top margin is light nearly as much as the straight visible background and was probably thought to be 8" x 10".

This was listed for $195 with 1 bid.
