Fred Gwynne fans. What do you think of this example?

Not fussy on the the "missing" capital E at the end of Gwynne...normally he wrote it bolder -- larger than what is show here...BUT the rest is close enough for me...

Just wondering if this is an atypical style of Fred's? In my opinion it doesn't have the typical Herman swag.

I agree with you Robert. I have never seen the d hit the G like it does here. The e's are also screwy, and so on. I wouldn't touch it.

Jj the reason I responded to this is that in my opinion this example looks atypical in slant, letter formation, spacing and most importantly to me it doesn't have the feel. If he did sign his name this way at some point then I can add it to the good pile- I just can't be sure.

Fred is one of my favorites and I love his authentic signature. Not only was he a great "Munster" but he was also a gifted and clever artist who typically signed his name as such. The faults that we both notice here do not pass muster with the numerous authentic examples that I have seen. It's a shame, but he's rare and there are plenty of fakes because of it. Caveat emptor.

Wasn't going to show as Ive shown this and told the story before, anyway if it helps. My wifes family ran into him in some restaurant/bar in the Baltimore area. She and her brother were in the 10-12 year old area so this was a long time ago as she is 47. Its her only autograph! They said he was really nice to them and kidded around,very gracious. Ive always read he hated Herman and didn't like signing but not in this case!

Signatures change over time but I'm not much of a fan of that example. A bit too "slick" but I'm no Gwynne expert. I suspect many forgeries out there!
