I don't like that Lake signature

And that LOA seems very odd.... too much description going on.

You would need to research this item more to find out if this is a legit story. I don't believe this is an official ELP product.

Maybe I'm being too suspicious, but this doesn't smell right.

Thanks Shawn, I think the LOA Is about right as there was a run of prints with artists signature and without etc, it was just the signature, I wanted to be sure before considering it, I am looking for the artwork signed and numbered by the artist, and I know there are lithographs with Gigers and elp signatures but as you know they are silly prices. Thanks for your help.

If you like the LOA and the Giger sig then maybe the Lake is good. Doesn't make a lot of sense to ruin an item like that w/ a forgery.

But the "Greg" on it's own strikes me as off.

Thanks, I will keep looking as one will come up eventually, still no reply from my third message to that BSS... very annoying.

My In Person Greg Lake signatures were signed in 1993 and 1994. Sorry, but nothing more recent.  Check out the guitar. Much more than just his signature if you are looking for style and penmanship.

May be of some help to you..................Enjoy.

I'd like to bring the pm's out from the shadows and discuss this more here.

So far we have a reprint litho of 9000 worth about $20 that has a border plate that "could" be signed by Giger (in pencil) but most likely NOT.... and a bit of an oddball (yet VERY close) sig of Greg Lake. But

The COA looks legit as there was one for sale at Worthpoint.

My problem with this still is.... WHY is there no COA or proof of the border plate signatures? And why is there no #/200, which it seems only 200 of these borders were signed by Giger. And how did Greg Lake get on there?

This for starters to gather the information from our pm's out in the open again. It's easier to communicate and maybe someone else here can help

If we are ONLY talking about the Greg Lake signature as originally discussed then my opinion remains the same. It has the makings of being authentic but has a few quirks to it so I cannot be 100% sure, sorry.

The unsigned (NOT handsigned) version of this litho on eBay was issued in an edition of 9,800 with no edition number. The three other editions were numbered and marked (editions of 200, 20 and 25), according to the cert seen with at least 2 of these online. The individual hand-signed proof markings are "xx/200", "A.P. xx/20" and "H.P. x/25".

As this litho bears none of those indicators, it is plate-signed and 1 of 9,800. There is the printed line "© H.R. Giger This is a plate-signed print, part of an edition of 9,800" on the bottom edge of the unsigned versions - this can not be seen on the eBay example as it is obscured by the mat. If this were any other edition you'd see edition numbers and a real signature. This signature showing is identical to the others so plate signed it is and 1 of 9,800. IF genuine as a litho, then work on the Lake signature. It could, for example, be a good Lake signature on a copy print. I have no idea. I did not look at the Lake signature while quickly looking into this. It would be good if the cert had some contact information on it.

Thank you once again for your inputs Eric. It certainly sheds more light on this piece.

The seller has stated that it was a gift about 10 yrs ago and that if he didn't need the money he'd keep it blah blah blah... so nothing of use from him. He also went on to say that the Giger looked like it was signed in pencil. So still of no use to us since he doesn't seem to have any idea of it's authenticity in any way.

If it's ONLY the Greg Lake sig that is (could be) Legit then the asking price of $500 is ridiculous and leave it be. But now I'm more curious to find out more about these lithos and what is a real Giger signed litho worth, especially with ELP members signed w/ him?

Hi Goodcat,

here is the eBay item and the Worthpoint example. The eBay auction images are extremely blurred - I pulled out as much of it as I could to show these are matching plate signatures:

And in overlay:

ahh yes, indeed same same = not hand signed

Maybe it's a holographic signature (sorry I just read that BR thread). haha

Am I gonna need 3-D glasses? ;)
