Churchill's sig is not that rare; - but can be very expensive. Now a cheque could be a good idea indeed;- as more difficult to forge. I personally have never seen a Churchill cheque before altho Churchill's sig often does come up at auctions (altho when genuine usually very pricey) If the cheque is at a good price it may be worth considering it because of the rarity value of owning a Churchill cheque and it should not be that expensive because of how small it is.
well IMO anything under $900 as long as the cond was good would be a very good deal; - but don't forget I live in England where he fetches a premium; - but if you have the money (no pun intended) and its a bit higher I would still go for it because it will hold its own and you may regret it in the future. I mean, how many people do you know that have a signed Churchill cheque?!!!!
Agreed a signed cheque is not common and a couple of bidders in an auction and it would go for up to $2k. I was shocked how many things Churchill signed, lots of papers and quite a few photos etc and often can be purchased for between $250 upwards depending on what you buy.
Oh at least; I've never seen one before; - and I follow Churchill at some of the auction houses here.
It would make a great talking point; - do you want to see my signed Churchill cheque?!!!
not a W C expert but do like keeping an eye on his stuff; - IMO he was more of an eratic (I don't know if that's the right spelling) kind of signer. Some of this was due to the fact that he liked writing anyway; some of it was due to the fact that he was pressurised when he signed and some of it was due to the fact that he liked the odd drink (or two) which could account for some of the variations. Sometimes he would be up for hours writing, or dictating. However, your best best bet IMO would not be one of the ad hoc sigs. I think your cheque still sounds a very good buy (no pun intended) . I would personally be very careful if you were going to buy anything off ebay.
