How to Restore/Preserve an Autographed Poster

Hello Everyone, I recently obtained a signed Chris Farley Tommy Boy Movie Poster, I just got it authenticated through psa/dna and its the real deal, my question is the poster was rolled and stored in a tube before I bought it, when it was shipped to me, it was very poorly packaged and the tube was flattened during shipping, so now the entire poster had folds and creases from top to bottom, I thought it I had it laminated that would probably get it nice and smooth again, would that devalue it at all, or would there be a way to get it restored and who may do that type of work? I paid $400 for it, its a full size actual movie poster that would have been displayed in theatres. Did I get a deal, and I thank you all so much for your input and advice. God Bless!..Harlan Kruger

I've had posters restored, but have never had creases removed. I'm not sure if that can be done very well. You might want to try letting it flatten out in an archival mylar sleeve. Whatever you do, don't have it either laminated or drymounted.

Agreed - do not laminate or dry mount if you care about re-sell value. Personally, if I paid for a mint condition poster and did not receive one - someone has some explaining to do. If it was insured (which a 400$ poster should have been), you should immediately take it up with the carrier.

If you still want to keep it and just get it presentable to put in a frame and show off & enjoy, I think placing it between 2 sheets of craft paper, then tuck it in a mylar sleeve, then get a some acid-free foamcore boards and put everything between the boards, get a few binder clips and clamp the boards together is the best option. Then tuck it all out of the way and pray for a while. It won't repair creases, but its a cheap way to flatten it out and a better way to store it than rolled in a tube.

If you do want it framed, go find a reputable studio. They'll go over your options for you. good luck!
