I would appreciate opinions on authenticity of Neil Armstrong and Apollo 11 signatures.

Hello:  I have a newspaper The Evening Star edition dated Monday July 21, 1969 showing the lunar landing and Neil Armstrong's signature and Apollo 11 written below it with the following provenance:

The seller stated he was principal of a junior HS in Montgomery County, Maryland from '71-'76. Neil Armstrong's son was there for only 1 year.  He also met Mrs. Armstrong.  Using his connection with the school he sent the newspaper to him to obtain his autograph.  He also recalled that he remembered an incident where Mr. Armstrong and his wife attended the parent 'Back to School' night.  His presence caused so much excitement and disruption once others realized who he was that they left and did not stay for the entire evening.

The seller included his name, the name of the school he was principal at, the years he was there.  I did not check out this information before purchasing the item.  I did compare his 1969 signatures with this one and it did seem authentic.

I have also sent a request to Mr. Steve Zarelli for his opinion.

Thanks to all in advance who give me their opinions whether yea or nay.

I have no reason to doubt this and it depends how much you trust the seller. If I bought a signature for Neil Armstrong, I would make sure I ticked all the boxes first before committing.

Thank goodness for AML.
Looks good to me.

Thank you Robin and Mike for your observations.

Would you also be able to refer me to a website that describes the best way to protect and preserve autographs especially those written on newspaper.  Much obliged.

I would suggest if you wish to frame it, museum grade quality materials. Anything to stop it losing quality over time (sun, dust etc. are your biggest enemies here). Good piece to have.

An NA autograph is highly desirable.

I think its probably good. Hopefully we will see what Mr. Zarelli thinks.

Thank you for your opinion Ian.  Mr. Zarelli has contacted me and waiting for his response.

I think it looks good.

Edward, thank you for your assessment.  I appreciate the community here for taking time to respond to my request.  Here is Steve Zarelli's response:

Hi Fredric
This is in regard to the Neil Armstrong signed newspaper you submitted for an Email Opinion (attached).

In my opinion, this item is likely authentic.

This is an Email Opinion based upon images and assumes the item(s) in question are not copies of an authentic original and the image(s) presented are an accurate representation. I only issue full Letters of Authenticity after inspecting an autograph in person.

Thank you for using my Email Opinion service and happy collecting.
Regards,
Steve Zarelli
