I wouldn't rule out a Jeter autograph for being "messy".  All of his later "Steiner" certed signatures are "messy".  How does this one, from Steiner, compare to the one in the discussion?

Well what concerns me is the J (at least I think that’s the J) on the questionable ball goes back up into the body of the signature. Most of the other examples I’ve seen don’t do that.
