I did a PSA Quick Opinion on this but they were unable to render an opinion. Any thoughts ? More images attached below.

instead of destroying history wouldn't saving money be a better option?

Definitely agree!

I'm not the one destroying the documents but it's giving me an opportunity to own a piece of history for a fraction of the cost. If I had the documents myself, I would absolutely NOT cut them up, but, a few people are and it's giving me a rare opportunity. The Lincoln I got was under $100, well worth it to me.

dont forget the card companies are doing it as well and on a bigger scale

This is a very controversial topic,

And unfortunately, i think you stumbled into a very hot topic Rhonda. You certainly havent done anything wrong, but certain individuals and companies have turned alot of collectors off to this type of thing. Their are companies out their that will buy perfectly pristine documents from some of histories most important people, with the sole intention of cutting them up and piecing them out. Their are also some who have no bounds with this concept. It could be the Constitution, or the first copy of the Bible, it wouldnt matter to some. As long as a profit can be had, who cares? Obviously not them.

Their have even been disgusting acts such as selling moments of the Jewish concentration camps, where millions died and were tortured. Grave dirt is also a favorite, and not only could it be soil from your back yard, but it also is desegration. Its just like the signs at the national parks. If everyone took handfuls of rocks and dirt, their would be no park left. And thats not even the burial place of some great people. These people dont see anything wrong with it. Like hacking apart relics from the past going beyond documents into things like hacking apart priceless objects from some of histories most important events.

Your not doing anythin wrong by wanting a piece of history Rhonda by any means, but the criminals who will take a congressional document and butcher it (not that thats what this was) sure are.

I hope it turns out real for you Rhonda. But i really do wish these clowns who cut these up would be stopped.

Carl

They certainly do need to be stopped. There are only so many documents by these Presidents or anyone else of importance and they should be preserved, not destroyed so someone can own a piece of Lincoln's handwriting that just says "the" or some ridiculous thing.

Personally, I see no value in this and it's only a constant reminder that some intact document was ripped to shreds in tiny pieces. I wouldn't give a cent for a piece like this. Pathetic.

(And by the way, I was a History teacher)

Tyler, I've been nice up to this point, but stop attacking me for wanting to own a piece of history that I couldn't otherwise afford. I get where you're coming from and understand that you're pissed off at the ones cutting up the documents, but it's no reason to be a jackass to me about it. Just because YOU don't see the value in a "few words" handwritten by our founding fathers doesn't mean others like me don't. MY value of these words go way beyond the money value, it's not about that for me. I got my Lincoln cut yesterday and will be framing it to enjoy and appreciate for the rest of my life. I'm extremely patriotic and love this country with all of my heart, so owning this piece of history is AMAZING to me. It will be proudly displayed beside my Bush family autographs and other political autographs and memorabilia.

I'm not attacking you for it, I could honestly care less whether you own it or not. Just saying my two cents about it is all. Nothing personal.

I'm among those upset that people destroy footballs, jerseys, bats, documents, movie costumes, etc . . . Destroying legitimately valuable collectibles for something cheap, boring and (in many cases) impossible to authenticate.  It's that last one that really has be thinking . . . signature cuts aside, is there absolutely any way of authenticating the 1 x 1 inch piece of "Babe Ruth's bat"?  Or that small piece of Captain Kirk's Star Trek tunic?  I don't think there is.  Also, is there really any video proof that Upper Deck or any of these card companies is really hacking actual memorabilia to shreds?  Seems like they're in a great position to pull off a really, really easy scam since everyone tends to take their word at face value.

You can get John Adams autograph for under 1,500 bucks.  Im not sure on authenticity but here is a link http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Signature-JOHN-QUINCY-ADAMS-6th-U-...

Ugh..  as a former History teacher that's a bit sad. Lol, that's John Quincy Adams (his son). Not the same.

Im sure you have much more of a passion Tyler than most of us, and i dont blame you. What do you think about the few sellers out their who market out pieces of historic life boats and fragments from the groundwork of the Jewish concentration camps? That just seems like an even bigger low.
