Hi everyone, I am on the fence about purchasing this John Wayne Autograph. It is certified by JSA and also has a COA from Profiles in History. BUT- I did a PSA Quick Opinion because it looked a little different from other John Wayne Autographs that I have seen (mainly the "J") and it was deemed "Not Likely Genuine". So with conflicting opinions from the two top certification companies, I decided to come here. I believe that there are some members on this site that have been collecting Wayne signatures for a very long time and are quite knowledgeable. If anyone can help me decide on whether or not to purchase, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!8.jpg

I had almost the same story with one of my autograph some months ago: it had a LOA from Profiles in History and when I tried to sell it- the buyer took PSA quick opinion and it failed. I started a thread here where I stated that PSA quick opinion was wrong (later I deleted it). And in some days they wrote to the seller that actually the autograph was more likely genuine and earlier they had thought that it was pre-printed...Than I sent it to JSA and it passed as authentic. So I guess your autograph would pass PSA in-hand review, but they are very cautious with their quick opinion.
I think the autograph is more likely genuine, but I'm not sure. So wait for more opinions.
I would trust JSA's opinion looking at the actual item over PSA/DNA's "Quick Opinion" looking at a scan or picture.
You never know who actually makes the decision on the "Quick Opinion."
They once opined "Not Likely Genuine" on a Mantle ball I got in person. I submitted it to them for a full review not telling them it had been rejected on the "Quick Opinion" and they authenticated it and graded it 8.5.
The service is useful to cull out obvious forgeries but they are very cautious deeming an item "Likely Authentic."
I'm not that familiar with Wayne's autograph so I can't render an expert opinion.
It looks good to me, but I'm not an expert on John Wayne, so when it comes to him, if it could fool JSA, it could probably fool me.
Really, I'm down on the PSA Quick Opinion right now. It's far too conservative by design. If I'm on the fence on an item, or I want a second opinion, it's basically a useless service in my eyes, since they're going to play it safe and offer you a likely not genuine opinion if it deviates even slightly from the dozen exemplars some guy who took a handwriting course ten years ago is looking at. I think it's a better service for people new to the hobby or with little experience. But really all they need is a service which tells them, "Should I buy this?" "No." Because it's probably some cheap junk on eBay which isn't even close.
It's authentic. My dad has one he got signed in person. It looks just like yours. You don't see too many John Wayne autographs. Very cool!
Sorry, for posting the same thing over and over, not sure what happen.
