I purchased this Johnny Depp autograph on eBay recently. I was examining it closely and one part of the signature kind of threw me off.  I have attached an image of this and have circled it below. It does have a PSA/DNA letter of grading and authenticity, but I always appreciate and respect the opinions of you all. Thank you in advance!

NO from me..............

Thank you for your opinion. I was studying this autograph for a while before I purchased it (luckily they offer returns for 60 days), but it seemed to look good to me other than the circled part of the signature. However, I am pretty new to this. Would you be able to provide me some insight on your reasoning? Was it the part that I circled or something else that led you to this conclusion? Just so I know what to look for etc. Thank you again, I appreciate it!

My perception of the photo you provided was that there was a stop and restart with the signature as the forger thought about the signature in his head. People don’t usually stop and restart their signatures unless they are up to something shady.

I also feel like the signature is perfectly placed on the photo and too neat. Celebrities are signing at a rapid pace and don’t care where they place the autograph on photos.

Thank you for your opinion. I agree, something just seemed off about it to me. Thank you for putting it into words. Kind of concerning that this had a letter of authenticity from PSA, however I did purchase it from a dealer who I believe is/was tight with them. Now I have to go through my first return process, but it was a good lesson to learn!

Does this particular piece correspond to the Cert Verification on the PSA site?

Yes, it has a letter of grading and authenticity, with a Cert number that matches the sticker on the item. The picture on the LOA and on their website matches exactly with the autograph I have. I can attach a photo if you would like. However, this is a big dealer and they flat out told me that before switching to Beckett, they had a PSA/DNA rep come out once a month to certify their autographs. Their relationship seemed a little too close for comfort in my opinion. They currently have about 10 more Depp autographs currently for sale, all with PSA/DNA letter of grading and authenticity. And they have already sold about 5.

That’s ok, I’m pretty confident it is fake. I would definitely get your money back. Good luck to you!

The seller just accepted my return request, not even 5 minutes after requesting it. They said nothing, they just accepted it without recourse or question, although I said to them exactly what you had commented. I don’t know if this is a sign of good customer service, or if they knew it was a fake and don’t want to fight a losing battle.

Glad you will get your money back. Dealer is selling in bulk and usually that’s never a good sign.

Thank you, Nick! If it weren’t for you, I’d probably still be on the edge debating whether or not to return it. I spent just over $300 on this thing, so I want there to be no doubt about its authenticity. I’ll be getting my money back, minus return shipping. I’m happy and I learned my lesson. I couldn’t tell the stop and restart motion on the listing pictures, but I won’t be buying from big dealers who have close relationships with these authentication companies, and I won’t purchase from sellers who have bulk of one specific autograph. Thank you!!

No problem! I would suggest asking the good people here about their opinions prior to buying another piece we won’t steer you wrong.
