I recently purchased this piece from a reputable dealer. I thought it looked good, but now I'm wondering if maybe it's TOO good?

For me, a Depp autograph often looks like it's been signed by a child, like if a child imagined what a big dramatic signature would look like and then drew it with a crayon.

This piece, it's like a grown-up is imitating what the child drew.

Also, the long vertical line always featured in a Depp signature; usually it's not connected to anything. Sometimes it just stops on top of one of the strokes made down below, but it usually is separate from the main signature. Here it actually joins with the signature in the "three leaf clover" in the middle. I've never seen that before. Also, I've never seen any pen strokes go through the bottom of the clover before.

Any thoughts?

Thank you, Anthony!

All is well, I've spoken to Mills. I'll send the photo back and he'll give me a refund.

Next time, I'll remember to ask for a bigger scan before making the purchase, lesson learned.

Cheers!

Here's about as perfect as you'll see when he takes his time.

My recipe for a Depp signature:

A long vertical line not connected to anything, a huge number 3 and then something that looks like "hsh" (if you're lucky) below.

Maybe I 'm an optimist, the one from Mills doesn't seem obviously fake to me.

Where did you get that Depp (the one signed on gold)?

Alfie Pettit got that for me at the Viper Room in the mid-90s.
What are your thoughts on this Depp.

It seems to be yet another variation, and is very similar to this one:
