JSA/PSA Show appearances

I've seen shops and shows advertising JSA/PSA appearances, and was wondering, if you bring an item to them for verification do they authenticate on site, ship it back to their offices, bring it to their offices, or advise you to mail it in? Or is it they'll look at it, and if they like it authenticate it on site or take it for further review if they don't? I've got this gronkowski helmet, with a COA and holo from sure shot promotions, as well as a Gronk holo, but would still like a professional 3rd party COA so that if at some point in the future he goes too Hollywood for his own good and bails on NE, and my brother winds up not liking it any more.

It seems like at many shows, PSA is just there to "authenticate" on site for players that are signing at the show. I.e. after you get Barry Sanders autograph, they place the sticker on the item, give you the cert and your item/cert # appears in their system a couple months later. If PSA/JSA is going to be at a show you're going to, you might want to ask the show promoter if they will be authenticating autographs that weren't signed at that particular show.

Just my own two cents: I personally wouldn't bother with a third party authenticator if you have Gronk's own hologram. I would think that would pretty universally be seen as much more solid authentication than anything JSA or PSA could offer. When I see a player's own authentication on an item, that usually eliminates any further questions about authenticity.

I wouldnt bother with psa or jsa if the player holo is on there as well. Unless there is a reason you question the authenticity of your item.
Second , yes they cert your item right there when jsa and psa do there on site authentication . Jsa use to do it at my place every three months on saturday . It was open for anyone to walk in with items. They would cert the item if deemed to be authentic right there . On l.o.a they'd would take photos and mail you the letter . But you keep the item . Psa comes to frank and sons and it is a little diffrent . They have a guy who takes the items and tells you to come back in a few hours .

yes, they do authenticate on site at shows for items not part of the show. depending on what they have available or the item it may require a home office visit. in the case of PSA if you opt for a full loa that would be issued from the home office but determined at the show.

sureshot for those that follow are pretty solid but I can understand.

you may have to leave the item and come back in an hour or so depending on workload.

So, I didn't bother with the Gronk for now. I did pick up an Aaron Hernandez signed jersey at the show (bought a jersey, had it signed). At the start of the show the JSA rep said that if it was signed at the show, it was 8 dollars, so I figured I'd be a fool NOT to have a COA done. So after I had my item signed, I went to the JSA booth, and the full process of authentication consisted of "did you get this signed here". As soon as I said yes I got my sticker. Now, I'm fine since I know that my item was 100% real, but it begs the question, if this is the process, what is to stop someone from bringing forgeries to shows and giving the same answer when a bigger ticket sports star does a public signing?

Funny you should mention that. I was surprised how far away PSA's table was as the MM show last year. Had I brought the signed pucks I'd gotten from Bobby Hull (who also happened to be signing that day) that I'd gotten a couple weeks earlier, it would have been easy to get a lazy PSA sticker slapped on them at a lower than average price. Seemed like it would be just as easy to pull a fast one on them with a halfway decent forgery.

there is a fly in the ointment with this approach as many already know.

these signings have a ticket stub and they could easily ask to see it but they don't even do that.

However, if they did that it would provide little relief as there is no association between the item and the signing stub. BTW, they aren't the only one as PSA/DNA was similiar at the shriner's show except they were charging $10.00 for show signed items.

Yea I went Sunday and there was no PSA rep. On their site they said they had to cancel. No stubs at Shriners though, just collecting tickets, and the JSA table wasn't even in the same room lol

I noticed that JSA is setting up here in Phoenix around 12/1. I didn't see an associated show taking place at that time. Do they set up with no shows going on in the area?
