What do I do?
Hi again! Sorry I had a new update on this funko and wanted some input.
So I bought some stuff from celebrity Authentics for the Keaton/hugh jackman signings. Long story short I have been waiting on Hugh since march but I did get a signed funko from Keaton a month and a half ago.the signiture looks sloppy and it wasn’t showing up on their database. I reached out to ca and was told there database was being updated and I sent a picture of it for a quick opinion to Swau and Beckett. Swau said it is likely genuine and Beckett said it wasn’t.
(I should add that nothing I have ever sent to Beckett has passed including signatures that I got signed at conventions. I also have some concerns from Swau. Signatures that they deemed fake came back as real from jsa both online and at a convention this last September.)
A few days ago I checked the ca database again and this time it showed up on the database but the picture they added wasn’t what I was given. I reached out to ca again and they spoke with the authentican apartment and updated the database. Ca said the picture was a stock photo and had been fixed. I went back online and the new picture is still not the one they gave me. When I confronted them about it they said they only use stock photos and they updated to match with the actual funko. Apparently the other stock photo was a different kind of funko. I’m not sure it sounded really shady and I was getting the run around and after a long conversation they said if I was comfortable dealing with them they might be able to get special permission to refund me on my other preorders. The problem is some of my preorders with them are send ins and I’m not sure if it would be worth canceling my preorders. I have gotten some from other signing but it wasn’t with them directly. They were either from Galaxycon or Twin Cites. I know they don’t have the greatest reputation but figured if CGC and companies like Galaxycon/TCC were apart of it I was safe. So what do I do? Do I try to get my money back or to I wait on my preorders?

I didn't think you can cancel preorder unless 12 months go by and you haven't received your item(s). At any rate after reading this and the other two threads about this Funko and CA I would never deal with them and their stock pictures. You can't verify anything from a stock photo.

This can happen for a few reasons. It is a great motivation to have or build upon your own knowledge base from deliberate experience over time.
Remember, Quick Opinions are just that - quick, When we had sales here you could not sell anything on the strength of a Quick Opinion, no matter who rendered it.

These preordered items will have stock photographs and that is what started this whole batch of threads...so...why?

Most welcome. There is also the potential for these preorders to have a sloppy, abbreviated signature like the Keaton. Remember, Steve said he would not even accept its poor quality were he holding the signing, so there's that too.

Right. Honestly I can live with stock photos if I know there real. Which is why I have been on here posting about this. Honestly it would probably be worth sending this thing in and than going from their. If they are real than I don’t want to cancel anything. Honestly o think it would be best if I stopped buying autographs online and stuck with whoever is at my local conventions.

But you are paying for a bait and switch. You are NOT able to verify. The quality is also low it seems.
Yes, simplify - stick with conventions and use online for education.

People say that collecting, the education, is expensive, but only if you buy too early in your arc. One can find suitable autographs and post them for review here and learn w/o spending a penny. It is also a good idea to open a new file for each subject (celebrity) and save as many scans of certified known exemplars as you can find for future reference.

For someone new how do you recommend that they save scans of known exemplars? How will they know its an exemplar?

That is where the observation and experience comes in. Not every item certified is authentic, not every item sold at auction from this or that house with this or that "OK" is authentic. But watching and looking over time at many auctions, the number of bids, and the results, patterns will emerge. Some are visual, others financial. Some items at a single house will sell for quite different sums. Of course, the item, signature, contrast, placement, age, and so on will play a role, but trends will show some styles selling for less. And, those things I just mentioned also need to be explored and learned so the collector can tell what is really better than average and so on. It is not easy, but infinitely worth it. To be able to identify an item as "odd" because of where it was signed, or what was written in a dedication or how, is a great layer of protection in conjunction with other skills. No one knows it all - all are learning continuously. That is the fun in the hobby IMO. What would the subject do. Knowing the subject. This is why I often say the last step is the actual selection and purchase. Everything else comes first IMHO. It is cheaper this way too ;)
