A friend of mine sold a large quantity of unsigned Star Wars memorabilia at the special Star Wars auction at emovieposter.com last Sunday.

Being a general poster dealer rather than a Star Wars specialist he was amazed at the amounts realised on his "20-back" Kenner figures. I will be getting a very nice evening meal out of it by the way.

He and I were staggered at the amount fetched by an 8-page German brochure for Kenner figures - $2,300! Does anyone know why this should be so sought-after? Could it be that some of the merchandise was never actually produced or that the brochure was never released or withdrawn quickly.

Here is a link to the auction results:

The link may not work after tomorrow night (10 April) but you can always look up results on the site through the "auction history" tab.

I am also attaching scans of my friend's brochure and his top price figure (the 20-back Darth Vader that went for $1,700). Any reason why this shoud go so high?

The images used to advertise this new wave of figures were mock ups. The Deathstar droid, The X-wing Pilot, R5-D4 and Snaggletooth were not the actual figures produced. Paint schemes on some of the others were altered as well.

Heads were changed on the DS Droid and R5-D4 , Snaggletooth was shrunk down and released in a red outfit, with the one pictured, used only as an exclusive for Sears. The pilot figure pictured is just a repaint of a Fisher-Price figure.

It is an oddity enough that the hardcore collector loves it.

As for any Original 1978-1985 carded figure, the prices just keep going up. Star Wars being in the forefront of people's minds once again will only keep collectors trying to add to their collections. A main character like Darth Vader, Han Solo or Luke Skywalker will always be the pieces that both hardcore fans and new collectors will go after.

That vast majority of these items were opened and played with.....very few in the grand scheme of the numbers produced remain sealed in their original packaging.

I hope that helps answer your questions to some degree.
