I meant the signatures. Epperson did a great Led Zep study for us that I need to find the files for and put it online.

That is the worst set of Zep signatures ever!!!

Can we now all agree -- Rick Barrett is full of crap?

I don't care if he's Epperson's best friend, or he once washed Stephens car and babysat his kid. The guy sold a lot of bogus stuff.

Based on Zep signed albums reportedly sold by Rick Barrett that I've seen over the past couple of years, I am concerned about some of the material he sold. But I don't think I've ever spoken to Rick.

Thank you for your responses, Mr Cyrkin and Mr Board.

I have since had the opportunity to correspond at length with the gentleman from Germany who listed the item. From what I gather, he appears to be a perfectly civil, respectable, and honorable gentleman, who actually designed Robert Plant's LP and CD album covers, and those of several other musical acts besides, and knows Mr Barrett personally. I will reproduce our entire conversation for the benefit and edification of this panel of experienced authenticators once I get his permission to do so.

In the meantime however, and based on our friendly exchange, and on the limited exemplars at my disposal and my own rather modest skills at deciphering, I earlier today made the decision to take a calculated punt and pay for the item in question.

I will keep the panel members here updated on further developments.

Thanks to all of you again for your contributions, suggestions, and advice; and with the best of regards.

Tried to get a opinion from Rick Barrett on a Led Zeppelin signed item,  didn`t get a opinion from him, instead refered to Roger Epperson site instead,  humm!  i thought he was a expert on Led Zeppelin autographs???   Makes you think????  Not good enough for a opinion???  Scare to render a decision???  Is he selling his Led Zep autographs with Epperson COA???? Buddy with Roger...huh!   Wouln`t that be like tracks uk, not rendering authentications on Beatles autographs, but sending you somewhere else for opinions BUT SELLING the Beatles autographs. $$$$$$$ that`s what its all about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the exact reason ebay has the "retract bid" option. Of course, it's hidden, but it is out there and should be used in these type of cases. These signatures (along with the others I've seen sold by RB over the years) are horrendous. I honestly believe the guy just doesn't know his stuff. Most likely not intentionally selling bad signatures, but I do not know him personally. Another case of someone getting involved in a hobby that they seemingly know nothing about.
Thank you for that input, Mr Altmann. The gentleman mentioned something about getting the COA from one Brian Knapp at a Led Zeppelin convention in 1992.

Josh,

Please don't make crazy statements like Rick is my best friend.  I have only met him a couple of times and that was usually at the post office where he mails his items from.  I am only saying that I have seen some great stuff from him over the years.  I just bought a Led Zeppelin signed 1977 8x10 promo by all 4 from him a few months back and it was without question authentic.  I don't follow his auctions or online sales as he sells very few autographed items.  He mostly sells Zep collectables which I do not deal in.  I have purchased about 10 things from him over the years including a U2 signed poster and a Who ticket signed by Moon and Townshend and none of them came with a LOA from him.  I don't believe he writes them as I have never seen one or recieved one.  Who knows if this album was really ever sold by him.  It of course is not authentic in my opinion.  Jumping to conclusions like this is really bad for the business.  People pull stunts like this saying they got stuff from me all the time which I never sold.

Thanks Mr Epperson.  I have since reversed the payment. Thanks to everyone here for their valuable advice and help.

Roger -- Sorry 'bout that. Just my anger getting the best of me.

For some reason, RB has this name associated with him when it comes to Zep items, and there's a BIG DIFFERENCE between memorabilia, and signed memorabilia.

That Frank dude knows his Beatles. Great.

Doesn't mean each band has a person like that -- the way Rick has become with Zep items.

And it just irks me to no end.

Believe me, RB has never had a "name" when it comes to Zeppelin autographs, so no need in worrying about that.
I agree guys.  Just autographs come with the territory and in his earlier days I think he trusted people too much.  That's not an excuse but I do believe that is what happened.  He appears to be much more careful as of late but if someone were to buy an autograph from him I would have it checked out first if I were them.
