On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.

Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.

Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

If you know Michael Jackson's autograph well, please look at a few images below from the auction and let me know what you think. Even better, browse the auction and upload any similar examples you have: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Thanks for your help.

Carl,

You're right...Michael Jackson's fans have done an incredible job here. I think it's highly likely that one way or another,  virtually all of the buyers of the signed lots will get their money back, and perhaps the buyers of the unsigned lots, too. If you can't trust the autographs, how can you trust anything in the sale? They're all from the same seller.

Julien's could have handled this so much better, and suffered little damage. But they handled it in a way that the company's reputation is possibly ruined forever...deservedly so.

If you can't be a good example...then you'll just have to serve as a horrible warning.

I have already paid for this :(
I don't know what to do now. When contacting Julien's it takes so long before they answer, if they answer..

Veronica, you will not hear from them, you must contact your credit card company, file a case and have the payment to Juliens reversed, contact your CC immediately and tell them what has happened, they will guide you.

Read the terms on the Julien's website or on the bidding application that you made. You might have to go through an arbitration process with them to get your money back.

I would continue to keep trying Darren Julien. He should try to make this right for you with as little fan fare as possible. His email is darren@juliensauctions.com

Good luck!

Veronica,

I think you're going to end up being OK. Please feel free to email me at editor@autographmagazine.com and I'll help all I can.

I have so got your corner.  But Epperson is THE authority, and this entire conversation has been totallyreasonable when it comes to analysing the facts.  I would be shocked if all the sigs were not done in the same pen, produced after the great music died. :(  get it analysied on that leve, but even as a beginner, I do not like think the sigs in the auction are bone fide.  Comparison analysis is basic, and even that says no.

even that.

Unless Micheal chose to sign it in a weird way because he didn't like Bush et al, and thoughht he'd make life tough.  I honestly think that a value for money, honest to goodness, free site with experts like steve and roger, are way more reliable, I mean, hell, they HAVE the knowledge, I am sure this will all come out and Juliens is dead in my eyes on the basis of my research and in my opinion, which as a biginner is pretty worthless.  But.... I dont see a lot of similarities, right slant is a killer, 'l' and 'm' dont become parallell. fight it, I truly am of the opinion that one day your case will be settled, I feel a class action lawsuit coming on..... Let's get gaga on team!!!!

^^
Thank you, I'll try that.

that Scream one does not look real to me. same for the Invincible inlay card.

Hi Justin, I missed seeing you here for a few days.  Those are the same two examples you didn't like when I first posted them :)

I like them, especially the Scream example.. look at that distinctive handwriting :) (and the story behind it rings true to me).

I moved that example to one of the links below.  Replaced with official signature example.

Wendy,

If you want I can give you some examples that aren't controversial you can use for comparison.

Sure Steve, if you want to and have the time to spare, that would be great.  I'm always up for adding to my digital MJ autograph collection (both real and fake).

Don't bother if you don't have the time though. Thanks.  Or should I say Thankx :)

Lols,, say Bush, bush in the BUSH!!
