On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.

Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.

Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

If you know Michael Jackson's autograph well, please look at a few images below from the auction and let me know what you think. Even better, browse the auction and upload any similar examples you have: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Thanks for your help.

I think it's close but no cigar.

yea that line in the middle looks funny. Noting looks sharpe about it like the hooks look good then they don't. good to know. Thanks for the feedback. I won't even bother trading for this.

Are we talking about the Beat It photo signature?  I like that one.  It looks similar to me to this one, especially the slant and shape of the L in Michael and the "bumps" and N in Jackson. (page 6 in magazine)

Also similar to this later era signature, especially the N in Jackson. (page 8 in magazine)

Not sure about the big upsweep in the L in Michael though (in the Beat It photo signature).

But I defer to Steve :)

yes the BEAT IT PHOTO….These SCANS up above are recent signatures of michael towards the end…..his EARLY SIGNATURES are usually every letter.

Thanks, but don't defer to me on it. The Beat It could be fine, but I'm not sure enough. I think Roger is more likely than not to think it is genuine.

I always defer to you Steve.  You are the best.  Thank you for this forum and for running it with such ethics, patience and decency.  Oh yeah, and dedication and professionalism too.

Not too sappy, huh?  It happens to be the Truth though.

Yeah, I hear you. I actually think the smooth criminal one looks better.

I think these are all good you are showing. The later era signatures. Well, I just think when he was signing multiples and trying to do so many in one sitting, he tended to do them like this because its much faster. When he had the time he would still write out his whole name very nicely.

I worry about those little bumps in Michael. It may be authentic though.

well he usually does those lil bumps if you look at other quick almost recent signatures ya know.

plus that mounting of a point at the end of the signature that's michael trade mark with all his signatures.
