On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.

Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.

Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

If you know Michael Jackson's autograph well, please look at a few images below from the auction and let me know what you think. Even better, browse the auction and upload any similar examples you have: http://www.julienslive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/77/

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Thanks for your help.

This one is authentic Im pretty sure.  Notice how the LOVE is far different than the wonky signatures that PAAS can certified?

I agree, Monty. These look great. This one was also in the book:

Were there any other Michael Jackson signed images in The King of Style besides these two?

The Double XX
I have never seen an authentic MJ autograph with a double XX. In the auction is an autograph with a XX under a line, and Bush signs King of Style book with XX under a line.
Too coincidental.

See side by side picture link above.

I agree. Notice also how Bush makes his s and its the same on the MJ ones also the L loop is similar. Cant help but jump to conclusions.

Hello, have some new compares I'll attach here.

1.)  J in Jackson

2.)  'Love' , M, J, K, N

3.) Overall compare #1

Wendy do you own these authentic Michael Jacksons. I have never seen that white hat photo before.  Wasn't it not common for him to put 1998 on a photo.  Does anyone here know what he meant by that.

Michael Bush told me that 1998 meant nothing. same with the white plasters on MJ's finger tips.

C,T and E were just random letters pulled from a hat and sewn onto arm bands etc

it was only afterwards they thought of SEE THE ENTERTAINER

No, not owned by me. Believed authentic by me. From eBay auctions over the past 3 years. See below for discussion on 1998.

Wendy. hate to say it. i know it's not helping right now. bottom three here.

(1) white suit, hat

(2) yellow sweater, white pants

(3) Stewart Regan book

none are authentic. not a chance.

The white suit was questionable to me mostly due to the small, unsweeping E and the shape of the L in Love.  I will remove it.

The Stewart Regan book was from an eBay auction with the orange colored background example above it being a second signature from inside the same book.  It was auctioned by a person who doesn't sell regularly - her story was that she had it signed when she met MJ in the 80's.

And the yellow sweater, white pants (red marker signed) is authentic Thriller era, imo.

I'll remove the top hat example.

ok .. erase that.. keep those two..

i haven't seen many autographs in that style where he clearly wrote every letter of Michael and Jackson

earliest one i have is from summer 1992

i would say Smooth Criminal spats are FAKE too :(

I know, I studied those two for a long time, too. Her story rang "true" to my gut instinct. For what it's worth. Her Regan book auction was back about 2 years ago. Haven't seen her sell anything else.

You mentioned you haven't seen many autographs in that style where he wrote clearly every letter of Michael and Jackson... I know you followed him and knew his autograph very well during a long time period.. would not question you there. :)

From my research, I have seen official (and unofficial) examples were he signed in that style, forming each letter in his first and last name. He did that from youth in through the Thriller era often, and I've seen him do it in the Bad era, as well. The yellow sweater red marker looks like a real Thriller era signature to me.

And YES! You are picking up on all of the examples I was studying the hardest and longest.. in this case, the Smooth Criminal spats. The writing is more clean and generic then I've seen him produce. The background "story" on these was that he signed them specifically for a charity auction. Taking that into account, I thought he might have formed the letters more clearly. Reason I ultimately included them was the "Love" - I thought the left angle/slant and large rounded E looked believable.

Probably not :(

Again, "Believed Authentic"
