A Mantle ball with his full name is pretty rare. You can find them but they are usually very pricey. Mantle was notorious for hating to add inscriptions or anything that would take longer to sign. Make sure the signature is authentic. There are a fair number of full name forgeries in the market but they are easy to spot. Unless you are very familiar with his autograph, you should post a picture here for opinions.

I assumed it would be fine as rr auctions are offering it and you're right it is already quite pricey but it would be nice to be the new owner  regards

Didn't realize it was in R & R Auctions. Obviously, authentic and beautiful. It will be very pricey especially with the 20% buyer's premium and in that condition.

I know; - I've been outbid quite a few times sadly but what do you think it will go for?

$2500 or possibly more with the 20% buyers premium would be my guess.

There is a nice JSA authenticated example on Ebay with a buy it now of $2295.

This one is nicer but will likely bring more than that with the buyer's premium.

There is a very nice one on Ebay similar to this one with a buy it now of $3999.

You can occasionally find them for a little less depending on how motivated the seller is. A friend of mine had a PSA/DNA graded 8 that he sold for $1750 about 6 months ago which was a steal but he needed cash quick.

Most sellers of these full signature examples will hold out for top money as they are relatively hard to find.

Good luck with the hunt.

Yeo thanks for good wishes re my ever elusive hunt

Beautiful ball, pretty rare... Personally, I would much rather spend 2-4k on a signed bat rather than a normal ball with someones middle name...

I agree. You can buy a nice Mantle bat for $2500 or so and sometimes less in the large auction houses.

Perhaps you could be kind enough to let me know what auction houses you would recommend

Heritage Auctions, Memory Lane Auctions, Hunt Auctions, Robert Edwards Auctions, Mile High Card Company, Clean Sweep Auctions.  All of these are very reliable as is R & R.

A lot of these are mostly sports oriented with cards, autographs, photos, etc.

Obviously Heritage is the largest and sells everything but bargains can be found as more common items such as Mantle bats and balls tend to get overlooked from time to time. I have bought some very nice items from them at bargain prices. They take forever to ship however which is my one complaint with them.

Another smaller auction house that is very good is Premier Auctions Online. They run monthly auctions and generally don't auction extremely high dollar items although they ocassionally do have some really nice items.

The large auction houses in my opinion are the best place to find bargains other than Ebay.

First legitimate auction I've ever participated in was Love of the Game auctions and it was a really good experience. Much more of a card based auction though and still fairly small.
