I recently rediscovered my old box of signed baseballs from when I was a kid and I am planing on selling them all. One of them is a Mickey Mantel that my grandmother bought for me at a estate sale about 15 years ago.
This ball never had a COA and it seems it will be at least $100 to get one for it. What makes this ball unique is the ball its self. The ball is a "Belknap Sport Goods - Semi-Pro League D49-62 9 ln. Horsehide Cover, Felt Center, Yarn Wound" with a "Haiti" stamp on it also. I have tried to look up information about this ball and the Belknap brand in hopes of dating the signature.
I have confirmed its not a rookie signature from some samples online, it looks like a standard signature you see everywhere. But the ball is clearly played with and very old and is from 1920-1960 since thats when Belknap Hardware sold their own line of baseball equipment.
My best guess is this was a child's ball that they played with and then had Mickey sign it for them (ala SandLot). I have found no evidence that Belknap was ever the official ball at any games pro or other wise. In fact searching the internet I have never found no record of a Belknap ball sold anywhere signed or unsigned. Only mention of rare gloves from the 1920's.
It seems real to me but you guys can take a look also. I am really curious if the ball and the age will add any value. With out a COA or unique selling point I guess I am looking at $300 if I am lucky based on current eBay prices of new Bobby Brown balls.
Thanks,
Grant
